...you're moving somewhere with no garage, no garden and are pretty sure it would last about 5 minutes on the street? This may be about to happen to me the week I'm due to buy a bike :(
In the front room. That's where ours is:D

I would rent a lock up, in Stafford there are random council garages blocks hidden in back alleys that you can rent for some silly amount on various estates, failing that I would beg some family or friend for some space.

have you got no drive at all ?
If its just a terraced house on the street i would just mount an anchor on your house wall and padlock it to that m8 on the kerb. if the kerbs wide enough that is.

Its a 1st floor flat with nothing but a front door onto the pavement. Even if I anchored it down someone would damage it, its in the middle of a not so nice area in Manchester. Mate has a garage but as its about 5 miles away its not an ideal solution.
Any idea where to find out about council garages?

Could you not wheel it through the block into the back m8 or aint it even got a back yard to them ?

I had this where I was living in Cardiff. The first day I locked it up, I got warned that the neighbour's bike was nicked, and that was locked up with chains. Doh!
I ended up buying two almax IV chains and chained it to a lampost. Never worried about it again

THat's why my bike is hidden in my Manchester garden right now ;)
Shame that the gate is so small, it actually stops ME from driving it
You could try leaf-letting nearby places that have garages...

buy an old van, tax it and stick it on the road outside.
let down the rear tyres and make a ramp
One garage.

Ask a neighbour or try to find somewhere to store it where it can be watched.
If you can find enough room look up protech shelters. Not the best look thing but i've got one and it's easy enough to store a bike in.

Thanks for the advice guys, I like the sound of the van idea, though I suspect it might work out more expensive than renting a garage. The problem with this place is it has no land at all, not even a back yard. Closest it comes to a garden is the front step.
My mate who lives there has a Ducati and within a few hours of him leaving it there the first time he caught two scrotes trying to start it before they pushed it over. His bike now lives with his parents 300 miles away and he goes home to ride every now and then.
I'm sure I'll think of something though.
Why do you have to live there??

Dont have to but I'm moving back after a while away and my mates have a room going. I could afford my own place but at the expense of the bike, which kind of defeats the object, especially as everything else except the storage issue is tip top.

get AA to recover it back to your home ;) :-dd
how could that be more expensive than a garage?
what £180 a year in tax ??? whatever in ins if you choose to insure it (which the law is changing to require it AFAIK)

Thanks for that, looks interesting. Do you need an MOT and insurance to get a valid tax disc?
I store my bike in one of those council garages, it's in the next road along from me (about 300 meters from my house.)
It costs £30 a month & has the added benefit of being able to house other stuff - push bikes, tools etc & I can also work on my bike in the dry.

For this reason I now wouldn't move anywhere that didn't have a garage/off road parking. I used to garage it across town when I lived in a flat, but I ended up not using the bike as much. An Almax IV and an anti-pinch pin round a lampost and a cover over the top sounds your best bet. I'd consider a disc lock alarm too. Stay on the right side of the neighbours and make an effort to get to know them. Their eyes and ears are invaluable. As an aside, which bit of Cardiff are you in?

Ah yes, that's a bugger you do. If you found the right van (obviously the on I posted was just a random example found in 1 min) you could find one with MOT just about to expire but enough to buy your first year of TAX.
But another thought was an enclosed trailer - probably more expensive to buy but not tax, MOT or insurance to worry about.

Dont forget a wheel clamp... Or you may as well just leave the bike with the keys in the ignition!
I was thinking just remove both wheels, easier to get the bike in & out, But you'll need to beef up the locks & still chain the bike up inside to a structural part of the trailer.
Why move there in the 1st place if its that bad. My bike is parked 'effectivly' in the street. It also used to be parked in my fornt garden when i lived at home, and that was easy enough to walk in and take it.

Ok why not just insure it, chain it up and if it gets nicked buy a new one? Or am i talking cobblers?
Option one - don't move
Option two - don't buy the bike
Option three - buy the bike and move somewhere nice...
In all seriousness, I wouldn't leave anything of value, chained up or otherwise, on the street anywhere around Manchester...
put bike on hold. or lose it. only you know how it is where your going, leave a ten quid mountain bike there for now, if them lowlifes want it, they gona avit.
im a fairly new biker, me and better half love it. new member to this site and quite impressed.
if you havent yet got the bike, dont. roads be far better for riding new tires in a few month, save some, move, bike, smile each morning!!!!!!!!!!!!
best o' luck mucka

WTF, i pay £70 for a private garage, but it is joined to my house.
Eletric light are free courtesy of the flat it belongs to.
In addition to the post before..
Buy a ****ty old van, preferibly with mot/road tax.
Let down tyres, and remove battery just in case..
Dont have this problem, cant really help tbh..
