Evening,
The ZX6 is great on me own but I took her indoors on it today and it became apparent that its a nightmare with two people on. The main problem isn't holding on cos I got love handles for that (plastic ones not fat ones). Under heavy braking though like todays 40 mph emergency stop for example we both slide forward (yes im gripping the tank with me knees) and the weight build up on me wrists is unreal to the point where at a greater speed control of the bars could become an issue!!
Obviously had no bother on the SV cos of the grab rail, but the zx aint got one. Does anyone have any tips apart from.
a) Leave her at home
b) Sell the bike
I'm honestly considering getting a hornet or something for two up riding. But any advice from you lot will be great...
Suggest she reaches one arm round you and rests it on the tank. Then she can brace against that whilst braking. That's what I do:D
ventura may do a grab rail type dealio?
Plus 1 for tank - or Grab rail's pretty useful. Not being a regular pilion I prefer a grabrail for braking. Brother almost fired me over his head once when I had nowt but tank.
(Got him back with a blow to the kidneys)
Edit: Should be able to get a grab rail for the ZX...

Pushing on the tank was my prefered method of supporting myself when i used to ride pillion, and is maria's prefered method. Is your pillion wearing leathers, textiles or jeans? Jeans will not grip, new leathers will not grip but if they have been worn a bit they will, textiles generaly have a soft leather or plasticy bit on the bum which stops you from sliding forward. You might also wanna try some sort of rubber matting on the pillion seat.
Stick at it, find a solution - I love having maria pillion, and me and my dad have shared some great rides when i used to ride on the back of his GSXR(s) :D
One of these?

woo, grab rail. That was an easy fix. Wonder how it goes on and how bad it looks!!
Apparently the ZX is more comfy than the sv for passengers. Only complaint form her was the lack of grab rail.
My mate has one on his K6 gsxr600 for his gf. It doesn't look too bad, what colour Kwak you got? If it's black then you won't even notice it. Not that it'll matter as it'll come off in minutes!!!
This might help

Triboseat. Absolutely the best and most dramatic difference you can make.
Does anyone have any tips apart from.
a) Leave her at home
New option.
Tell her to get her own bike. Carrying a pillion screws up the handling.
I've got a triboseat on my ZX, girlfiend doesnt slide into me at all, holds her nice and firm :)

I know the handling isnt as good two up but she loves coming on the back so i dont mind.
Grippy seat and grab rail for me then. Problem looks to be solved thanks to the org.
Triboseat every time, got one on front and pillion seat on my bike, in a word brilliant.
daryl.
Taking a pillion is rubbish. Being a pillion is rubbish. Fit a single-seat cowl and forget about it.

Wholeheartedly agree with you there.
Don't brake so hard ;)
Try stompgrips. I've got them on the Thunderace and they helped solve the problem for me.
