As you can see from the picture, the rubber thingy on the top is broken and not doing its job, whatever that is! I took the front brakes apart to clean them before a ride, can I still go for a quick shake down or will this be daft?

thanks

I'd be tempted to pull it out and give the pin under the rubber a liberal dollop of grease while it's off

same thing as I just found-
I'd like a little more info. -

what is this bit?
how would i replace it (the rubber seal)?
should i clean inside with contact cleaner or WD40 or brake fluid?
could it be related to a 'squeak' my bike has developed? (it seems to follow the revolutions of the wheel)
thanks for any help

Take both calipers off and rotate the front wheel - my speedo rotor has caused a squeak before
