Hi everyone, passed my test recently and bought myself a '99 sv which i'm loving, but im having some trouble with the clutch.
It doesnt seem to be disengaging properly, so the bike pulls forward when stationary with the clutch lever pulled in in first gear, and won't go into neutal when the engines warm. I took it to a dealers but of course they want to fit a complete new clutch... being a thirsty student i can't afford to have £300+ of work done, and the bikes only got 22000 miles on the clocks which doesnt seem like much of a lifespan for the whole clutch assembly.
anyone know what could be the problem? if its not something i can fix myself then at least i'll know what really needs doing
cheers

Is it correctly adjusted?

I was having the same problem - peel back the rubber cover near the lever and you can adjust it there - it me 2 minutes to sort mine out this afternoon.

That isn't clutch adjustment.

Search under my name and clutch adjustment.

cheers chaps

the bloke at the dealers claims its out as far as it can go... but i spoes he could just be a pirate. funny that whenever i get my bike back off them it seems to be worse than when i dropped it off...
i'll have a poke around and see if the adjustment helps

Just to make sure:

'It's 'out as far as it will go' sounds like a reference to the clutch cable adjuster, this is NOT how the clutch is adjusted, the cable adjuster only sets the cable slack is does NOT adjust the clutch.

Even if the clutch were worn, there is more adjustment than could ever be needed at the lifter, (under the front sprocket cover).
