Hey guys,
Taken a few months off while I sort my stuff out, but am back to servicing the bike ready for March.
Just stripped down the front callipers after a few weeks off the road as they were binding quite a bit - cleaned them out (thanks to the forum threads!) and am thinking about replacing the hoses with braided.
I've found these on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUZUKI-SV650-K3-K6-VENHILL-FRONT-BRAKE-LINE-KIT-03-06_W0QQitemZ290297461598QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Moto rcycle_Parts?hash=item290297461598&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683|66%3A4|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A13 18
Can I humbly ask the 'orgs advice as to whether they're suitable or not? I checked their website and they seem to have two or three different kits, including one that's a "crossover" (6020F, and 6020FS) and 6021F/FS that are "race" -> I was assuming before I checked out the pics that the race was a two "cable", and the crossover was more akin to the "standard" OEM setup whereby you have the crossover from the r.h caliper to the l.h caliper?
I remember seeing a thread a little while ago saying there wasn't much in them, apart from the "2" ones were a bit easier to maintain/simpler. In terms of fitment, do any modifications need to be made to the master cylinder? Or do the lines bolt on as straight replacements?
Advice gratefully received.
Cheers,
Al.

Can't comment on the diff as i have standard set up, but i notice they are chrome plated banjos. Personally i would go for stainless banjos as the chrome will eventually rust.

Wait right there.
Look for goodrich ones.
I got the full front and back set off ebay for £50 i think. ( ok they are the alloy but a good clean and acf50 and the still look brand new )

I saw the goodrich ones, and saw these - couldn't tell much difference betwixt the two!

I went with the goodrich as i got a lifetime guarantee/ warranty.... so if they start to go rusty or look like thier about to give up i get a new set.
Also i got front and rear for the same price your looking at for those.
Goodrich are nice (comes with stickers too ;)), go for stainless as will last better. I'll go for the 2 line front as it is easy to setup and imo looks better too . no mod is needed to master cylinder (a double banjo bolt connects the 2 line) you then remove the spliter, weight saving .
for a few £ more you can get colour banjos and hose!

Sounds like the Goodrich ones get the vote!
Thanks guys, and thanks to the mighty 'org!
Right, now lets fire up ebay.
Cheers,
Al.
Goodrich aren't bad, but those Venhill lines are actually very good quality. They're used by a number of race teams IIRC - mainly because of their separate banjo construction, which allows the lines to be much more nicely aligned. It's not unusual for fixed-banjo lines to end up with slightly misplaced ends which result in them springing out in odd ways from their intended routes.
I wouldn't worry about the chromed fittings, either - Any Suzuki will rust away at least as quickly as those lines will.

Well, I've gone for the Venhill - they arrived yesterday all shiney and lovely and look the like dogs danglies (imho!). Will post some pics if anyone's interested tonight. Primary choice was that the Goodridge hoses actually seemed to come out £10/£15 *more* expensive than the Venhill! The only place I found that 'matched' them in terms of price would meant them coming in kawasaki green which looks ncie on a Zx6, may clash somewhat with my blue!
Will try and construct a blow-by-blow pdf instruction too, which hopefully can be hosted/posted somewhere just showing what I'm gonna do , and what mistakes I make...
Cheers for now,
Al.

Come on though - how often have you really thought 'Hmm, I know what would be handy right now. More rear-braking force, and less deformation of my rubber rear brake line'?

Go for the 2 line (race) setup IMO.
Go for the 2 line (race) setup IMO.
And on the front, I'd go for the seven line 'Millennium Falcon' setup ;)

Lol. No point having a braided on the rear. Also worth splashing out for the stainless fittings.

Yep, my thoughts entirely.
But for the same price and worth it specially if you dunno how old rear hose is.

Not when you're getting E-Z rust zinc plated fittings it ain't!
After scraping about 1/4" of salt buildup off the fittings of my HEL lines they are totally pristine.
Get stainless.
he does do the upgrade but obv extra $$$ but yea is worth gettin stainless

Are the three lines you get with the goodridge kits all for the front or is one for the back?

Depends whether you have got the 3 line front kit or a front + rear kit.
It should be fairly obvious by looking whether the 2 long lines reach all the way from M/C to calipers...

Well, of the the three lines, there are two long ones which I think reach from the front master cylinder to the front calipers, so they would irradicate the 1-2 system the front of the bike currently uses. One line is longer by about an inch, presumably just for the far side. The third hose is substantially shorter, so for the rear? But the rear of the bike uses two hoses, so i'm presuming only the hose from the mc to the calliper is replaced, and the rubber one from the resevoir to the mc is left alone.
Sound correct?

Yeah braided is only for pressurised hoses, not for the one from reservoir to m/c
