I've been riding my SV for a few months now. When i had it i noticed the gearbox was very clunckey and werrrey (if they are real words) and loud but came to live with it.

I've only become conserned with it today when a friend of mine went off for a quick ride on it and you could here the clunck, when he changed gear, over the engine (which has a race can on it) and when he came back down the road the 'werring' was almost deathening.

I'm really quite consernd and i'm not taking it out again until ive stripped the box and checked it, but was just wundering if anyone else has encountered a similar thing with their SV and would like to advise me if it's just me being silly or whether i've got a problem on my hand.

It's a K3 necked done 12k, last oil change at 7k by pervious owner.

Don't start stripping the motor yet. Change the oil, check the chain tension etc. first

Agreed with YC, stripping the box is a lot of work, and it's not been serviced in 5,000 miles. Chain condition, chain lubrication, oil level, oil condition all play a part in how the gearbox feels and works. And these can be changed in-situ.

Oh yeah also to strip the box you will need a new pair of head gaskets. Kerching!

It isn't a cassette design so it's a total engine rebuild.
