right ok. Bambi squashed me forks(deer vs SV650....Dizzy won, bambi dead, SV got a hairline bend in stancion). I have a 2000 S.
YC did a front end swap (gixxer) and i bought his nakid forks(his bikes younger)
The only difference between them was, on the bottom of my S forks below the axle jobbie I had 2 bolts, the ones I replaced them with had one......thats it. Same length, same everything.

iv just found in my sv650 haynes manual this ...

sv650-k2 and sv650s-k2
apart from the front forks being fitted with pre-load adjusters, the model was otherwise unchanged from the previous year.

dose it matter that they have pre-load adjusters and also what do they do ??

dont know if its the same with curvey forks but on a pointy the colour sticker on the inside of the fork leg denotes if its s or n models, n model forks are softer.

softer is that good or bad ??

depends, softer less sporty, stiffer more sporty.

Engineers reports basically are to determine wether the bike is safe to be on the road again.

When we repair really badly damaged cars, they tend to need engineer reports if the structure is believed to be unsafe in anyway.

The engineers reports can be quite thorough, they tend to measure for straightness.

When my old nsr was written off it needed an engineers report because i was hit up the rear and it bent all the subframe, this was easily repaired and when the bike was put together again all was fine.

I would just suggest that if you are unsure of anything get a second opinion especially if it is anything to do with the frame.

I may be way off the mark here, but pretty sure im not as ive just done it, what do you mean by engineers report to get it back on the road? if its a class C/D write off (would you / can you put a class A/B back on the road) then all you need is a new MOT and your good to go....

my bike was written off as class C in November, I got it back in December.....bought some bits and pieces, got a new MOT and im back on the road, insurance didnt even stop....with cars you need an engineers report to put it back on the road....not so with bikes.....

this is true, all a bike needs is an MOT.

they can request an engineers report as well as an mot. it will be stated in the conditions, it all depends on the type of damage really

If I had of crashed which of course I never have, and had an aftermarket exhaust and extra plastics they would have been removed prior to inspection.

I've never heard of a bike needing an Engineers Report. It happens a lot with cars but it's not a requirement for putting a Cat C or D bike back on the road.

Are you sure you need one, or is it something a 'mate who knows these things' told you it needed before you could ride it legally?

I was asked for an engineers report by my insurance company when I did my GSXR front end swap...so it doesn't have to be standard.

Your bike doesn't have to be standard, but it must comply with the law. You can have undertrays, Renthals or whatever you like, as long as the bike is straight and safe and legal.

I'd like to see who demanded an Engineers Report, it's not something I've ever heard of a bike needing before.

mine was cat c and the only engineers report involved was the one from my insurance company to work out how much to claim from the wingnut, then to put it back on the road it was put on parts and mot job done

well my insurance companye says i have to have a engineers report then if it passes that then a MOT. then i am back on the road. and my bike is a class C write off.

so a engineers report is to check for bends in the fram ect. becuase i fort then had a good look around the bike and checked ever thing, like a over the top MOT ??
