Tyre choice.

Ive been offered an Avon Viper rear tyre for my SV650S Curvy, for £58 plus £10 fitting from a friend.

Im currently running a Storm on the front, and its bloomin grippy as hell. Its been extremely durable.

Im wondering if the Viper is as durable as the storm - how many miles does it offer?
How much grip does it offer?
Any personal reviews appreciated!

Less mileage than the storm, loads more grip when hot and dry. However I seriously doubt that you are challenging the grip that the storm gives in similar conditions.

Dunno about the vipers wet grip. However, that price is a right bargain. Might be worth putting it on one side for when your current rear is done.

WORST TYRE EVER. Hot, dry grip is crap. Wet weather riding is a slippery affair, theres just no grip...

The reason im hankering for a new rear is because ive got a nail in my rear atm (though its not letting any air out) and its badly squared off with the motorway miles i do. So i need a long lasting tyre that gives good grip. Long as the viper lasts 5000miles or so im not bothered.

It's a sports tyre. I think you'd be lucky to get 5k out of one.

A much better option would be to get a tyre matching your front. You can get a good 8k out of those.

I have continental road attacks tyres. I thought they're rather good, but my previous bike (EN-125) had thin Chinese nylon tyres...
I don't know? I'm satisfied with my tyres as far as I'm aware, I might try some different ones next time then. :)

Believe me Ninj,

Youll know the difference, get some avon storms on there - youll feel what all weather grip means when riding. Theyre an amazing tyre.
