Anyone done one? I've just booked one in sheffield (would be cool if someone else did too, boycott it sv style lol) but somethings just crossed my mind. My bike is very slightly louder than standard so it might be a bit obvious I have an aftermarket exhaust on - will this be a problem?
p.s The title's supposed to say 'police'
I was on 1 in Aberdeen, there was a guy on an r1 doing it with a yoshi race exhaust, micro indicators, micro no. plate, almost slick tires and a black visor... :)
After 1 years of road riding I found the course worth doing + I got my sv on the front page of the local newspaper :)
Did Bikesafe at The Warren in Bromley last year, was a really good day out, those blokes do know how to ride!! Doing it again in March.
Regarding the exhaust, depends how loud I suppose ;-) , they did look round all the bikes when I did it and I was a little nervous about my number plate but they didn't say anything. I think they were mainly checking that we had some brake pads left so we didn't go up the back of them!!!

Forgot to mention that, if I hadn't seen it, I probably wouldn't believe how you can handle a big beemer

I did one in with N. Wales two years ago, a very good course. I would highly recommend anyone to do a BikeSafe course. On the second day we were paired up by ability and given specifics to work on. Looking in my mirrors and seeing a trail of sparks from a Pan-European scraping his exhausts keeping up and the instructor coming over after and laughing like a drain about it, it's still one of my best biking memories.
The course in N. Wales is free to residents, so seriously considering doing another to brush up and get a sanity check on any bad habits I may have developed.

Ah that's reassuring. I parted with 50 english pound for it and would hate to be sent home for not having a road legal bike or even worse get a ticket!
The exhausts a bit grunty occasionally pops and burbles.

The new BMW's are even better! The engine guard bars make a right shower of sparks! Ask sandy, she'll be on one soon enough!!

Ahhh missed that bit of your post. My bike was parked up in the N. Wales police HQ courtyard with small-ish plate, loud twin Renegade exhausts and smaller indicators. It did roar when started :smt057 nothing was said.
They checked documentation before taking us on the road, so take MOT, insurance and license.

Yeah they're really good IMO.
I did one in London last year (got it free too being under 21)
As long as your bike is safe (brakes and tyres), they should be fine.
Gave me a lot of confidence in the corners and filtering.

I'm 18 and captain crash but sheffield council won't pay for mine :(
Cheers guys, I'll just suck it and see then. The bikes got a legal plate and I'm pretty sure my indis are legal too (despite being smaller).
Can't wait now :D ...I need all the training I can get.

Barstewards :smt019 lol
I don't think you should have a problem with the can. From what i've heard, they're not really jobsworths about things like that. An instructor where i was training said that she done the bikesafe course, and at one point the police bike was doing nearly 90 on a country lane chasing after a car, and the copper asked why she didn't try and keep up.
Let us know how it goes, because when i get my SV the bikesafe cours will be the first thing i go out and do.

Yeah. When I did mine they said we'll stick to 30s, 40s and 50s, but feel free to open it up on national limits. Obviously don't push your self out of your comfort zones just to prove a point.

Done the bikesafe course with Central Scotland Police about 2 years ago.
It was pretty good rode around for a couple hours,me in front following a set route, and a pull into a lay-by for a progress report, set out again with police in front and me following watching his riding techniques. Then switched round again with me in front for the next 20 odd miles back to Police HQ.
A wait in the office and general discussion about the ride faults and tips etc.
and a signed certificate.
Well worth it.

Different areas have different ways of doing these, but the main similarity seems that the instructors are volunteers for the course, enthusiasts & very tolerant of us & our bikes.
Thought you'd have learnt plenty over the weekend - I did & not all about riding.
You could of course give me the fee & we'll do the Hardy Bikers again!

You're not wrong there I learnt a hell of a lot and got more confidence in my bike. One of the best things I've ever done.

I did one last April with West Yorkshire Police.
I doubt very much that your exhaust would be a problem. There were some pretty loud bikes on my course which was not an issue at all.

Anyone done the Surrey course?
.... a Pan-European scraping his exhausts....
Trust me, it wouldn't have been the exhausts, couple of other bits touch down first, specially on an PS Pan ;)
Would highly recommend Bikesafe to anyone, well worth the time spent doing it :)

I have just booked one for 21st March at the Warren, Bromley. I am looking forward to it as I met the guys at BSB Brands Hatch and they seemed a really nice bunch.
I looked into the one in my area and they charge £50 but Bromley is supported by Gov and they only charge £30.
I asked about my load exhaust and they said as long as its within legal limits so if your bike isn't road legal I would check the website first.

Do it. The police might not like your exhaist, give them a call first to check.

Same for me - I did the Hampshire Bikesafe in 2003 with twin 'not for road use' renegade cans - only comment was 'bloody hell, they sound nice.
Im going to sort one out with Cleveland either next month or the month after.

Mebbe if we all ride into hedges they'll change their mind?
The course in N. Wales is free to residents.
The South Wales is £100, so I guess Brunstrum can't be all bad.

Also getting a derbyshire one booked as they are subsidising 70% for derbyshire residents and 50% for those who use their roads.
