Hello, does anyone know any good suppliers for piston rings? I mean good as in decent quality at lowest possible cost.

I have an old shed of a curvy which I've just done a compression test on and found to be on the low side (150psi and 135psi). I did the oil in the spark plug hole thing and the pressures went up to around 180 in both cylinders, so it's not the valves.

I guess it might be the bore walls but first I'd like to get an idea of costs for piston rings before stripping it down - might be cheaper / quicker to get another engine.

Thanks, Jon

Cheapest way is to find a blown motor and swap the top ends over. Big ends go quite commonly so spare engines are pretty cheap.

I would send you a set but I can't remember which piston went in which pot... (I was going to 700cc it before I found the crank was f##ked!)

Suzuki dealers sell Suzuki parts.

Thanks YC, I will keep my eyes peeled for stuff on ebay.

I asked the questionn because I used to run an RGV250 and for obvious reasons piston kits were readily available. Suzuki kits were good quality but very expensive and there were often cheaper alternatives from companies like Wiseco that were as good but a lot cheaper.

I was hoping there would such an alternative for the SV but apparently not. I could go for a big bore kit but it's too expensive and may overwhelm the aging bottom end and gearbox.
