View Full Version : Who are the worst drivers?

Magnum

I think the worst are van drivers, closely followed by the elderly.
Van drivers DO indicate, but generally after they have started the turn, and old people think they are the only people on the road, and seem to not know what a lane is.

Who do you think are the worst drivers? (obviously not EVERY person in each catogary will be a terrible driver, but as a general rule...)

Yes it was my first ride today when everyone is back at school after the half term, and during school pick up hours. It's been the only ride i havn't enjoyed due to the traffic and mums in their 4x4's.

I've had soo many run ins with rangerovered blondes. Thinking small 2 way roads are oneway, understeering out of a junction they mistimed for fear of breaking a nail, blindly reversing into main roads, changing lanes with no observation (luckily I foresaw this as they had there mirrors folded in!!).

Hmmm, depends where you're driving I think. In the country lanes I've had to use my whole life, the elderly are the worst because they either refuse to reverse even when they are only 10yards past a passing place or they can no longer turn their heads to see where they are going.

On general roads, A and B roads, I agree, van drivers are terrible.

In towns and cities, without doubt it's taxi drivers

Motorways I would say the occasional lorry driver that ingnores the law and uses lane 3, the idiots that cannot drive anywhere but the middle lane and the typical field sales execs that spends half thier lives on the motorway and think they own it do particularly annoy me!

No there are worse a lass asked me what the raised dotted white lines across junctions are for (funny enough in itself). I'm talking about give way lines for the bimbos of the forum. And I told her they were so blind drivers knew when to stop for the junction. She in all seriousness believed it.

I have infinite patience for learners, but when it comes to anyone else in a car there are no excuses.

I forgot to mention the c0cks in their BMW/Mercedes with personalised plates who have absolutely no patience. One guy was behind me at a mini roundabout, and after my little escapade last week with someone not indicating and turned right anyway, i was extra careful and stopped, checked it was definitely safe to continue before moving off. He had no patience, and as soon as i stopped he beeped his horn.

Sally

Also, my other friend, doesnt stop to give way for crossroads, APPARANTLY its safer to keep going, its quicker, and no one is ever there.. Shes still learning, she does this with her mum in the car sat beside her..
Wow, women, can a female explain that to me?
(granted the org women are a different class of riders/drivers, but a woman's insight may be helpful)..

I seriously think that after a certain age, people should have to have a second test to see if theyre safe to actually be on the road. Some old people, my grandad for one, are good old drivers. Others do not have a clue and have terrible reaction times.
Many old people go through illnesses that would affect their judgements and reactions, but they are not always advised to stop driving. My nan for one is on medication that she believes would affect her driving, so she stopped.
My dad is a fireman, and has been for many years. He has seen some gruesome car crashes (particularly in auto transmissions) where old people have just lost control and plowed the car into a wall and died. Anyone that can do that, could have easily killed pedestrians or other car drivers, or YOU on your bike. It's ridiculous.
Some old people are so completely oblivious, they should not be on the road.

My sister used to think I was taking the **** when I commented on how bad some women's driving was - until she started driving a lot for work. IMO, it's lack of experience and the lack of confidence that goes with it.

One of them was responsible for writing off my Astra some years ago. A group of cars (including mine) left a big roundabout together and were accelerating onto a dual carriageway when she stopped dead, wrecking 4 cars. She realised she'd taken the wrong exit and hit the brakes (hard).

At the other end of the scale, the overconfidence of van drivers who never use their mirrors or indicators takes some beating. One nearly got me when I was riding my little 125 alongside some stationary traffic. Without looking or indicating he pulled out and raced off up the wrong side of the road to get into the petrol station before the lights changed.

I think white van man just about gets my vote, but it's close.

Keith.

Trucks. The bloody things drive SO close that they might as well touch my bumper. On Monday, I had a truck that was creeping closer and closer and ever more closer even though I was stationary. I seriously thought I was going to get hit.

Overall I would say 4x4 drivers. They really do think they are superior and can ram you off the road / intimidate you or blind you with their headlights.

AFAIK there is some kind of assessment done under certain conditions / at a certain age.

When my grandad was still alive he had his licence revoked at the age of 65 cos he failed some kind of assessment - I think in his case it was mostly for medical reasons. Whatever the reason though I'm sure it was something that was imposed on him cos he wasn't happy at the time!

Everyone!

I've never really had much trouble with the german saloon driving type, as I try not to get in their way, or if I'm in front I'm going a decent clip anyway. WVM generally seems OK so long as you realise they can't see a lot, and stay out of their way.

Buses are full of smelly people, so I don't trust those. Trucks are generally driven by foreigners high on schnapps, benzedrine and little chocolate covered peanuts, and are heading nowhere near berlin, so watch out for them.

Worst of the lot are the young sl4gs in stupid little cars, or the old slags in stupidly large cars with their precious little brats in the back. Funny as f##k when you come across those and you can ensure the little rats will be saying "mummy what does that word mean" for fackin weeks!

I've often said similar to Stretchie......I've not got a license but have been a pillion or years and can honestly say that my obs before I got on the back of a bike the first time were appauling compared to now.
If all new drivers had to sit pillion or ride a bike for a good time on all different roads, they'd have a much greater understanding of how their driving can affect those on bikes and others in general. All it takes is one idiot to decide on a spur of the moment lane change because your lane is moving a bit faster and BANG...you're off your bike and the driver is left saying, "but I looked, I swear I did". It should be compulsory at least I think to have to spend say, 10 hours riding as a pillion.

No one is perfect! In london i get cut up by nearly everyone. I am finding at the monet that scooter riders are coming up in the ranks. However, bus drivers are still the worst in London without a shadow of a doubt. They jump the lights, block junctions, park all over the place (Elephant and castle bus stop) and generaly have NO constideration for any other road user. I would even put scotter riders above Cab drivers nowadays, they seriously think that they are on a scooter and the throttle is a switch!

Things i do notice are. Most cars that have no lights on at night are by Majority, Women. Women in general NEVER let you out of a junction. White van man is the biggest culprit for driving on the phone, BMW Bike riders think they own the road on thier 1927 engined GS's.

All said and done these are just personal observations, and most of the time that i get cut up, its probably because im not where i should be, and i think that goes for most of us.

Thats what the line used to be.

Theres many bad drivers imo. basically EVERYONE who doesn't concentrate on driving and is doing everything else. Doesn't know driving laws, or even their highway code. You see them every day. Middle lanes, no indicators etc...

I even had some black bloke offer me over for a row last night.

he sat in the outside lane, i waited, waited, waited, waited, waited, feck it, inside.

jsut as I go (i'd waited for 1.35 miles before the PC brigade get all excited), he pulls accross, no indication.... I pulled next to, point at indicators, shake head, carry on.

He flashes, flashes, leaves full beam on (daylight?????). So i slow. he signs for me to pull over, yeah i got time, lets go punk.

Pull over, gets out, all beefed up attitude "whats your problem"
me: "errr you, can't your drive dickwad. Sitting in the outside lane, no indicators, generally driving like a chump. Do you know your highway code at all???"

He just turns and walks off. He wanted a row/fight, but as soon as i'd pointed his errors, he had nothing to say.

So the worst drivers are us drivers who know what were actually on about, as we're the minority and always get the finger for pointing out others mistakes, so im wrong, its me whos the crap driver :(

Kids who drive without 'L' plates. You just never know to give them a wide berth.

TAXI DRIVERS

the ones in leeds anyway. homicidal maniacs to a man. bus drivers get a commission for wiping out bikers (thats why they drill holes in their fuel tanks) but they just lack that killer instinct

+1

I was going to say that in Holland it's basically anybody in a German car (and I hate to say it a few of my fellow Volvo drivers as well...)

But Biggles reminded me about coming back from the UK last year. I complained about the Ducth on the way to the ferry, the brits (driving standards have dropped so much in the last 10 years since I left I no longer have to get used to being back in the UK now :( ), on the way back via the chunnel I wasn't happy with the French but coming through Belgian the rest pale in comparison...

I don't get why people complain about women drivers so much though... I had a colleague who always complained about women drivers, was amazed I gave my wife the key to the Turbo Brick, who then weeks after passing his test destroyed a 306 Cab that was a couple of weeks old (company car) in a single car accident on the motorway in good weather. And afterwards still compained that women shouldn't be allowed licenses.

Ah some good old generalisation about groups of people and then slating all of them in one go
