Anyone been?

I'm flying into Miami on Wednesday, then spending a week in Fort Lauderdale.
Any tips/warnings or suggestions of what I could see/do/avoid?!

I shall be on my own for the most part of the day.

Thanks

I think they call shopping centres 'malls' search for that in Fort Lauderdale, might bring something good up.

I'm not sure how far West Palm beach is from there, but can you scuba dive? IF so I would look into some diving, its great round there, I did my first dives in FL You may have to waer a wets suit, 3mm would be fine depeding on the water temp.

We went to Sarasota (but flew in to Ft lauderdale and drove over) on the west coast last year for 2 weeks and it was brilliant. If you do nothing else make sure you go to the everglades for an airboat tour while your there. Our guide was a bit of a crazy old hick but he new his stuff and even got a 8ft aligator to take fish from the edge of the boat! Even if you dont want to travel (and you will miss out on a lot of great scenery and shops if you dont) the beaches and climate is amazing. Just take lots of mozzie repellent and carry some allergy tablets as we got eaten alive (although could be because we went in the wet season at the beginning of september) :smt042

Sawgrass Mills is a huge mall to fill your suitcase with gear. Massive and cheap. See on the googles' map.

Hire a car and drive down to the Keys. Key West is great for pubs and music etc. \\:D/You can actually walk about and not feel odd!

Everglades. Airboat ride. Open piped V8's, o'mammy!

South Beach in Miami is definately worth a visit too, walk down the boardwalk , walk back Ocean Drive.

The city centre though is lovely. Plenty to walk about. Take one of the tourist boats that takes you about all the waterways. See how the other half live. Was a few year ago so sorry I can't be more specific.

Fort Lauders? Get yourself to Pure Platinum...er...second thoughts better not, (just let your other half go)...go to the Candy Store instead...or the Parrot lounge. When it rains, it rains hard for ten minutes, then it's all dry ten minutes later. Weird...but nice.
