I've noticed a few peeps on here seem to be quite into photography. problem is my digital camera is broke! it's a fairly decent Sony camera, the problem is the when u remove the lense cap it turns the camera off! rubbish! I can view pics and change settings and stuff when it's switched on and has the cover attached, but obviously can't take pics.

question is can these type of things be fixed/ repaired by shops? it's out of warranty and I stopped into the Sony centre earlier they said if I sent it to Sony they would charge £125 bucks as a flat fee plus parts that need fixed! at that I would consider just saving a bit and getting a dslr to replace it!

I live in scotland but if you know of a decent shop or somewhere I can send it, it would be greatly appreciated

can you tell me a little more about the problem? it sounds like the sensor has died.. if its just staying black on the screen but will allow you to view images..

if the lense cap is on the lense I can switch the camera on, if I turn the dial to auto/outdoor/sport picture mode to take a pic it says 'the lense cap is attached' but then if I remove the cap it just switches off.

to put it basically it works normally with the lense cap attached (no use for taking pics) as soon as the lense cap is removed it powers down

Is it one where the lens cannot extend when the lens cap is attached?
I have a Sony S600 that has a similar problem, its the servo sticking on the lens mech, though mine just says 'please power off and on again'.
A hefty whack on the table always fixes it.

Glasgow city centre right next to the station. Specialist repairers, not a camera shop.
I've used them any time I've had a camera serviced or repaired.
