Becoming an organ donator is not really something we like to think about or discuss........ but if you take 2 minutes to ensure your name is included in the register you really could make a difference to someone who is desperately clinging on to life.

Its important to let your loved ones know your wishes as 60% of people on the Organ donor register are denied the chance to donate becuse their next of kin were unaware.

At present there are just over 15 Million names on the Organ Donation Register and today more than 9,000 people in the UK need an organ transplant that could save or dramatically improve their life.

Most are waiting for a kidney, others for a heart, lung or liver transplant. But less than 3,000 transplants are carried out each year.

There is a desperate need for more donors. Last year more than 400 people died while waiting for a transplant. One in ten people waiting for a heart transplant will die and many others will lose their lives before they even get on to the waiting list.
The more people who pledge to donate their organs after their death, the more people stand to benefit.

By choosing to join the NHS Organ Donor Register you could help make sure life goes on.

I carried a donor card for years, once the register became available I enrolled.

My family know my wishes. I just wish government had the guts to change the rules to implied consent unless you opt out.

Is it not on the new driving licences?

Yes it is, you can opt in/out when you renew your licence.

The way I've always looked at it is that they are no good to me when I'm dead, so someone else might as well get lumbered with my knackered body bits! ;)

Already registered years ago, so consider this a free bump! :D

When I'm gone they can take what they want, if any of it's still any use, that is! My liver probably won't be worth the effort... :drink:

Have been for years, also on the bone marrow register which does not get very much press but equally necessary.

Woah I could just about read your writing BB! Would you be able to post in bigger font in future? ta :mrgreen:

Im already on the list, once Im gone my organs won't be any use to me so someone else might as well have them. Plus I think my family and friends would find some comfort in knowing a part of me has helped someone live.
