Does anyone on here know anything about black cabs/ex london taxis?

I am thinking of getting a cheap run around for days when I need a car and reckon a taxi might be a cracking thing to have.

Where is the best place to get one? anything to look for? or best to just avoid and get a car?

Cheers,
Kev

If its a non-licensed cab then its just like every other private vehicles and so banned from bus lanes and has to pay congestion charge.

You will also get drunks trying to flag you down, and if you stop at lights trying to get into the back.

They were selling a load of them really cheaply when the laws about disabled access came in - I thought about one - loads of space in the back etc but decided that it may be just too much hassle.

Oh and Stephen Fry has one as a private vehicle.

It is mainly for karting the kids about during the holidays as I have about 4 weeks with them and not having a car available is a mare, a cheap old cab I wouldn't be bothered about.

I did look into a car club type thing but there is nowt close to me.

Not worried about going into town either really. Might go to the auctions on Friday when I drop the bike off for a service.

Soulkiss - how are things?

£2500 - at what point did that become a cheap run around?

I know it's possible to fit a black cab body onto a Land Rover 88" chassis. That way you can have a V8, 4WD London cab.

For something that will carry 6 passengers and probably not need much if any work done and have a decent record of being looked after I would have thought it to be a pretty good deal :)

I have found a couple of Metrocabs for under £500, one of them has a PCO mot thing in Plymouth for year, might be worth a punt.

Does it have a full service history and if so whats the mileage?
Several hundred thousand I would assume.Makes no sense to me.
