View Full Version : Restricted TL1000s?
Out of interest got a quote for a TL1000s earlier and it was only 200 more than i am paying on the SV, but obviously they push 125bhp and i was wondering what they would be like restricted?
Anyone had one?

IMO your cutting the guts out of it restricting it, be better with an SV, nowt stopping you getting one after your restriction is up :)
Waits in eagerness for the, 'there's no point having a TL as your first full power bike after restriction' brigade.

I've not heard of it, and I suspect theres a very good reason for that.
Personally I think its a complete waste of time.

I've seen the kits for them. Its right that it'll be a waste of time restricted.
Have a worth with Girth the big ghey (:-P), he may give you some advice about what his SV1000 is like.
Don't hold your breath though :smt040

Hows the SV1000 restricted, does'nt it have a detuned TL engine?
Insurance is a joke on one of those though 1600 FC opposed to 700 on the TL.

Putting the restriction to one side.
I looked at TL's and the like before I bought my SV and my GSXR, the conclusion I came to, was that they are old, all the ones I looked at hadnt been looked after and were rotten.
Why do you want one, what do you think its going to give you ?

I had my RS125 restricted to 11hp or what ever it has to be for L plates before I passed my test. Was horrid, flat spots were emphasised and there was no power band! some bikes just dont take to it.
Get a TL once you can have a full power bike if you still want to :)

an SV1000 is a completely different animal to a TL.
Just wait until your restrictions up.
If I asked my other half if it was a good idea to restrict a Raptor(TL1000s engine) he'd laugh at me, pat me on the head and tell me to stop being so silly!

there was only ever one reason to buy the TL, the engine...
by restricting it you remove the only good thing about it...;)

Good question.
I didnt want one particually, before i got the 700 quote, they look good though and this one is only 2500 with 13,000 miles.
More power really, but this is why i am asking, will it really be any quicker than the SV restricted?
I have a mate who has a restricted ZX6-R and his bike is still good for 110-120, plus i have heard of restricted R6's doing 120.
How much longer you got on your restriction?
TBH, as said, just wait.
It was a pig when it was restricted i think it was slower than the 650 pointy i had. IT then started playing up because the restrictors were pretty much suffocating the engine.
Restrictors out and oh yes! :smt040

Nope it wont be any faster, both are restricted to 33bhp... the only way you'll get more power is to take the restrictors out.
TBH I wander if the TL woudl be slower than the SV is, IIRC its a heavier bike. Life isnt all about top end speed.
Stick with your SV and learn to use what you've got, then when its restrictors out time you'll be a better rider for it.

.
I'd have to ask Im Indoors, but its not necessarily the power that is the problem with a TL its the way they behave. He always wanted a TL but would probably have to spend a load of brass sorting out 'its little quirks'
He got the Raptor instead. It behave better, and its got a different power curve, its got about 2bhp less than the suzuki version, but it works better...or something to that effect

OTOH that TL is very good looking :)

a month after me.............. wait i really would then go out and get the bike you want!
Thats what i'm doing.......... as i don't want to chop the balls of a bike that isn't really meant to be resricted, that i would not enjoy riding for those 18 LONG months which they will be on a bike that doesn't like the resrictor.
I've never understood what people see in TL's, they're damn ugly :smt104

I know, I know!!!!
This is what i know i should do and to be fair i love my SV :smt057 even with 33bhp so i am kind of hoping that its gonna be a bit like a new bike when the restriction comes off anyway.
But if not im gonna buy something bigger or at least quicker

I really don't like the TLR, think they look fat and overweight
I saw a black one at Squires at the weekend. I thought it looked ok. It were the S. They are slightly more appealing on the eye.
Much prefer the Raptor:mrgreen: but then I would say that:rolleyes: it keeps staring at me:cyclopsani:

The engine of the TLS is a lovely engine, its the stuff surrounding it that lets it down.
The Italians improved all that when they brought out the Raptor. Its a TL that handles exceptionally well. The original had handling 'issues' amongst other things

Neither can i, feel more than confident with the bike now.
Thought about doing the test to get rid but its a fair bit of wedge for something that is gonna come free anyway.

[granny mode] Restrictions are there for a reason, take them out and when you get your fingers burnt for whatever reason, don't come crying..really can't understand these people who spend a small fortune on getting a license, only to put it into jeopardy...oh i do its called young male testosterone [granny mode off]

Soul, character, personality, great sound, admiring looks - basically everything a GSXR doesn't ;)

OKAY, well would you buy an axe, then file the edge off to make it harder to use and generally more of an ornament than a functional tool? Well that's what restricting a TL would be like. (Not to mention the sky high insurance, godda have more money than sense. If you don't belive me join the TLZONE and they will just laugh :lol::lol::lol:.)

Any questions about a TL I would ask at www.thumperzone.com (http://www.thumperzone.com)
a real bunch of nice people:D
Before I found 650.org, the 1st rideout I went on was with these guys.
I then found out where my comfort zone was(those guys & gals are fast). Half way round, I thought, shall I just bugger off now. Now I know I don't have to keep up, I now ride to my own pace:D
I still love the TLs though

I don't think suzuki made a restrictor kit for the TLS (anyone know better?)
FI international do, for the various TLs and TL derivatives (raptors, DLs, probably bimota too, SV1k) However, it's the type that will make it run rich.
So, you'll end up with something that probably handles and stops a little bit better than your SV, with a load more weight, the same power and a serious drinking problem!
Pointless.

That's FI international kit, and will make it run slobbery rich. Bunch of c##ts.

I keep thinking about one, but I have a GSXR750 'fighter to keep me amused after restriction finishes, while I decide between a TLS and a T509 speed triple.

Whatever you do, don't get a CBR restricted, gutless and horrible to it. IMO, the SV is the best for restriction :)
