Made it back in one piece, here's a couple of shots as it started drizzling when I pulled up to the drive, hopefully tomorrow I'll have chance to get some better ones when I clean here:

yep, 2008 model on an '09 plate, i didn't ride the '09 because I can't afford one so i'm working on the principle that ignorance is bliss...

MRUK: it's not all sunshine and lollipops, in comedy triumph style the bolt that holds the RHS indicator to the plate holder fell out between salisbury and lymington leaving the flasher dangling by the lead, so i've had to jerry rig another in there for now, let's call it "character"[-o<;)

You'll be the fastest man on the Isle of White now ;-) .. Nice looking bike, the black 675 is the best colour IMO.. I'd go back and give them a bollocking for that indy coming off, did they check the rest of the bike??

probably not tracking it, the nurbugring is tempting but the thought of any pierre/fritz und pablo being able to pay for a ticket and end up driving next to me at 150mph doesn't really appeal

In fact you must be one of only bikers around to get a supersports bike that is more practical than other toys lol.

lol

sportsbike vs. supermoto depends entirely on the type of road

on the island we've got roads where you'd grenade the KTM trying to keep up, if you didn't nod off from boredom and crash beforehand, and we've also got roads where you'd almost certainly crash a sportsbike trying to keep up with a supermoto

will update when i've had the first service and i can play with all 14k rpm:mrgreen:

oh yes, i tried a 2006 bike as a demo, after my vision returned from a 2nd>3rd gear full throttle run i found i was laughing so hard i had to get one, i can't believe an engine can be so strong over a 10k rpm range

the more i look into it, the more i'm tempted to take a more aggressive approach to running it in and change the oil at 250miles

All the big crap is in the oil by 50 miles.

I would let it rev with little load, i.e first gear, not to redline maybe to 8 or 9k. As you get more miles up do it in higher gears, more throttle. 300 miles or so fresh oil then ride it properly.

I have heard several times now that its the 675's ridden really softly in the breaking in period that end up using 1ltr of oil every 1000miles. You need to ride it hard so they seal right.

And seen as your being like that......anything else fallen off it yet?

mr.anderson
08-03-09, 10:17 AM
Go for the aggressive approach, but remember:

Don't accelerate too hard, use heavy engine braking, or labour the engine. Vary the revs, don't stick at a certain speed for too long. Don't do more than 75% of rev limit until you have done 500 or so miles.

*advice is based on what I did, I take no responsibility for outcomes of following these guidelines.

No really, I very nearly bought a 675 before buying the 600rr, I like them alot and they are a very pretty bike, BUT they have way to many issues and reliability problems, nothing to do with jealousy ;) although if it makes you feel better about your purchase then fell free to think that lol

The dealer I dealt with was a Honda and Triumph dealer (Pidcocks and the sales guy is a good friend so unbiased)....they advised against the triumph for many reasons, most of which have been mentioned some of which have not.

Nope, just good honest advice and I knew what he was making on each bike, was at a time when there was an influx of 675's just before the new one was announced so you could buy a new unregistered bike for £6500 - 6800.

Never really heard any horror stories about 675, heard a few about the rocket from some of the triumph forums though, but nothing good stuff about the 675.

You just have to do a bit of reading or speak to an honest dealer. The common stuff is

Engine management light coming on because of coke build up on the exhaust valves.
Bikes randomly going into Limp Home mode then reseting themselves.
Very excessive oil usage.
Brakes seizing and warping discs.
Corrosion issues on a few parts of the bikes.
Thin paint getting damaged and scratched.

stewie
08-03-09, 11:25 AM
Well I suppose I knew about the thin paint stuff, but the burning oil issue ? not so sure tbh, still, Ive got a 650 so what do I know :) ?

EFI wierdness, should buy a T509...

Very excessive oil usage.
Being a girl when running it it...

Brakes seizing and warping discs. Krhall, 600RR. Hardly a unique problem on bikes with strong brakes and anorexic components.
Corrosion issues on a few parts of the bikes. Not half as much as jap iron.
Thin paint getting damaged and scratched.Hardly a reliability issue is it?

I'll be getting myself a T509 / 955i at some point. 2 important points, one is the price, the other is all this reliability stuff has been discovered before and worked around...

Probably slower than the 675, but easy enough to tune up to mid 130s bhp. And a far less torturous riding position. (propa bars lad!)

Reliability - mine had the exup valve sorted 2 weeks ago. In a year, apart from the 500 mile service, that's the first time it's had anything fixed. It hasn't gone into limp home mode, it doesn't burn oil (I followed Kristoff's running in advice;)), it hasn't lost any paint, it hasn't had warped discs, it's just been wall to wall fantastic. I don't find the riding position challenging - maybe cos I'm used to it. The only thing I don't like are the lights, or rather lack of. My HIDs still haven't arrived - that's another story - but they should sort that issue. Nope I have to say I'm one happy owner:D - as I'm sure TLW will be too:D

From Google (was the 5th in the list :p) (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=118585)

The question was more to find out if someone has finally issued some road-legal HIDs for bikes.

But as far as I am aware they are still not road-legal.

if it sounds like it's coming from the lowest part of the exhaust then possibly, if it gets left to corrode it can stick, see this "how-to" (http://www.triumph675.net/forum/showthread.php?t=21392) on getting it going again

Ed, i ran HIDs on the SV for a while, never even got a second glace from following traffic cars or riding through north wales

considering the 675 has twin projectors anyway i'd be amazed if you found a copper who *knew* they weren't legal, let alone one who was bothered to pull you for it

You are right regarding the practicalities of using them, but that is a bit different from the legalities..... Your HIDs were fine in my mirrors and so is Y-C's. Correctly set up I see no problem with them, but they are NOT legal. I have yet to see a HID set up in the dark on full beam, so cannot comment on how good they are.

I never said they were;) - same as my plate, my exhaust, my visor etc etc

my point was that i reckon fewer cops are aware of HID legality and how to test it by the roadside than visors/exhaust baffles or number plate technicalities, so you're unlikely to get done for it, especially if, like you say, they're well adjusted

as for how good they are at night, it's really not an exaggeration to say that low beam HID is better than high beam halogen, high beam HID is pretty much redundent, unl;ess you're trying to light up retro-reflective road signs hundreds of metres away

I ordered mine on ebay from HIDS Direct at the beginning of February. I paid the old fashiobned way - sent a cheque on 7 Feb, cleared my account on 20 Feb (why the delay in presenting???) and I STILL don't have them. Complained today, Martin there promised me they're in the post. We's'll see... Should I leave negative feedback?

Soprry for drail.

Back to TLW's fantastic bike:cool:

I ran mine in gently for the first 500 (ish) ;) miles, and then did what i wanted near enough.
Only issue ive had so far with mine is the most well known glitch-engine light=excup valve is stuck

You usually settle for seconds do you Kwak? You mightn't want her when TLW's finished with her!

Oh dear, I do apologise, shouldn't be let out lol
