Following one of my headlight bulbs giving up on life, i went down to my local shop and asked for another, to be told, for the 45x45w bulb as stated in the manual they are £25 EACH!!!! Why the fook are they so expensive and why does no-where stock them??

So not believing we all pay £50 for a set of standard bulbs, where do you buy yours? I see all the talk about Osram Nightbreakers but on they site they dont list the spec of the bulb as 45x45?

Cheers.

I had a pair of phillips x-treme for £25 I think, definitely recommend getting good ones, osrams seem to get more users so maybe the ones to go for but the phillips did me well.

Is it just a case of any H4 bulbs will work even if they have a higher value?

H4 will fit but needs to be correct wattage otherwise the electrical system isnt up for it..

See, these (http://www.hids4u.co.uk/product.php?productid=95&cat=34&page=1) are the only Osram nightbreakers in H4 fitments but they are not what Suzuki state the bike needs as are 60/55W?

So what ones are others fitting?

i thought 45 x 45 was wrong, any H4 60/55w.... would be ok

H4 bulbs are 60/55w theres no other forms of them. All curvys i know of use them unless you have some sort of "special" curvy.

You don't need 45/45W, these are simply the original equipment spec. and are woefully feeble.

The SV will happily power regular H4 lamps which are usually a 60/55W. The alternator will cope happily and the wiring is up to it, so no real downside. The "H4" refers to the fitting type, there are others such as H1, H3, H7 etc.

The generally accepted leaders in the "legal" normal type "E" marked H4 lamps are the Osram Nightbreakers and the Phillips Xtreme power, I think there's not much to choose between them and either will be a huge improvement over the original 45/45W offerings. I have some Xtremes in the car and they are pretty good.

Be just a little cautious about sourcing them from fleabay, there are reports of fakes, but one supplier I can recommend is powerbulbs (http://www.powerbulbs.co.uk/)who also have an ebay shop where prices are substantially lower than the website. Either of the above lamps can be had for around £12-14 a pair, and decent value for money at that.

Yes it is.

60/55w H4s are perfectly adequate. Can be had for a quid as well, but it is worth the premium for some nightbreakers/silverstars etc.

Be aware that they are that wattage for a reason. The lenses are plastic so they are low wattage so there is no risk of melting the lense.
I think a lot of people have fitted non standard bulbs and been opk with it.

But that's your answer as to why they are expensive as it's only the SV I think that uses them.

but no one seems to sell 45wx45w?Thats becasue no one will replace them! A std set of H4 bulbs will surfice on the SV. If you desperatly want a set of 45wx45w bulbs, then let me know, i still have mine in the shed!

You are incorrect Mr racer. The SV came out the factory with 45x45w bulbs. 99% of people have changed them by now!

Well im surprised that mine still has the factory bulbs, but this is good news as i have a spare set of std H4's in the garage to put in, for free!

Cheers again.
