Just about to go out for a quick drink and bite to eat with the other half, first time for ages.

.....and a bl00dy cat ran out in front of us, she slams on the anchors and the cat escapes scott free. Us on the other hand not so lucky, why would we be the rest of the year so far has been cack.

"The car is pulling bit Kev!"

"pull over and I'll take a look"

It must've been pulling more than a little bit there was not a breath of air in the tyre!!!

Quite a hole in the tyre too, coincidental puncture? or caused by the aggresive breaking?

Anyway as it is a front tyre and a front wheel drive car - do I need two really or will I be ok with just one? There is a credit crunch on but the safety of my wife and kids is far more important than my overdraft.

So what's it to be 1 or 2?

I keep thinking rthings can't get any worse, but they seem to find a way too.

Whack one on and you'll be OK. If you worried about wear etc, swap the rears to the front at the same time, and put the new tyre on the back.

Won't have an effect on the car handling/steering etc?

I'd get one, but only if the tyre on the other side has plenty of life in it. If the other tyre is low I'd replace as a pair.

+1
You haven't mentioned what kind of condition the other tyre(s) are in.
Unless it's fairly good I'd probably go with 2.

But...... the thing to do is.....
Look at all 4 and see how many you really need.
(or have a mechanic you trust have a look)
If one let you down chances are the rest may be in poor condition as well.

put the back ones on the front and a new one on the rear,,, should affect the handling so bad... maybe?

If not one will be fine

A new tyre on the front won't affect the handling. Just replace the one.

Try blackcircles.co.uk they are fantastic.

Sorry mate, i think you'll need 4 tyres, the tracking done, oh and your exhaust system is a bit rusty, so that'll need changing, and we wont know about you brakes until we have the wheels off. We'll also check the suspension as well while we're at it. It could be most of the day!

Or the other side of the coin. Took my Mini in to get new pads as the current ones were grinding alot. I mean I would only use the brakes in an emergency they were so noisey.

Right we had your wheel off and look at the brakes, they are all fine and have plenty of life left in them. Nowt wrong with it.

10 miles later whilst travelling down a hill went to brake and after the intial bite something gave way and the brake pedal went straight to the floor!!!
Took it back and they said the pads were non-exsistant.

My local kwik fit got hauled before the courts for inventing work and over pricing it at that. When my daughters car failed its MOT on worn discs at a local main dealer, they kindly offered an estimate to replace ~£300. when she rejected the estimate they made her sign a disclaimer that she was aware that the car was in a dangerous condition and that she had been advised not to remove it from the premises until the repair had been done.

I asked about a free retest once the work had been done and they said no if they don't do the work. Well I took car home, mic'd the discs and they were within tollerance. Phoned my mate who does MOTs and dropped the car at his house that night. Next day I picked up car/new MOT and asked him how were the brakes. Perfect was his reply. Well they should be, those discs have only done 8000 miles.

We got a full service history with the car. The main dealer who failed the discs had fitted new ones for the previous owner. I guess this must have been a common money earner for them. crack on about safety and use heavy handed scare tactics.

Well back to the tyre. only replace the knackered one. If the other front is worn, then swap them for the rears.
