View Full Version : What can i do with my broken ipod?
My 30gb ipod video has a bit of a problem with the headphone socket. When the headphones are fully in, only the left ear produces sound.
It's a shame since it works on an ipod dock, transfers music fine and everything and i dont think i can fix it. I bought a new ipod nano 16gb last week to replace it.
What shall i do with the 'broken' one? Do people buy broken ipods?
Why, oh why would you buy an apple?

You could flog it on ebay. Its still of value to someone who wants it to use on a dock, many new 'hi-fi's' (sic) come with a dock and can use it as a music source

Eat it. Or try to. Just to prove Apples are not good for you.

I was gonna suggest that, but I thought it was too simple. It clearly is just the earphones...

Could be, or could be the internal connector or related wiring. Could be just a dirty contact. The dock uses a different set of connectors so wouldn't be affected.

HA HA!
Oh and they must do, you did - well they come out of the factory broken :)
Its not the headphones, ive tried several different ones.
The repair place offered me £30 for it, but it would cost £45 to fix.
How much do you reckon a working ipod video would go for?

You shoulda said then.
It'll be internals then. I'd offer you £50 for it. But I don't have any money.

Yes but you said the sound was only coming out of one ear. You didn't say that you've checked other earphones.
Gosh, kids.
£50 broken.
Try squirting some contact cleaner into the socket, it may simply be a dirty connection.
Of course, if you listen to Soulkiss that is purely a fault that happens to Apple products...
