Am planning to fit one of these to my cuvry SV this the wknd: :D

http://www.gpsinforad.com/prodinfo_en.php?pn=im&type=presentation

under the pillion seat storage, wondering where to power it from:

1 – connect the two wires to the main battery with a added on/off switch between?

2 – piggyback the parking light/side light wires?

3 – anywhere else recommended?

These is also a meter long amplified antenna, would stuffing it all in the tail unit be sufficient? Or should it be run up the length of the bike to the screen area to maximize the GPS reception?

big thanks :D

Any ignition controlled live will be fine - the Inforad is a very small load, clearly it would best if it were connected to a circuit such as the indicators - in the event of a problem it won't lose you the ignition or other vital circuit.
I put the aerial inside the screen of my bike, it's the highest and least obstructed place on my bike, (ZX6-R), but I think the same is true of most faired bikes.

And thanks Sid :D

I'm a novice to bike eletric so I have been studing the Haynes wiring diagram :study: with your advice in mind and plan to do this, but want to make sure:

To connect the 2 Inforad wires to the licence plate light wires (this is a ignition controlled live?) so that its on when the side / main light switch is engaged. is this a ok setup?

Thanks :D

You have a Curvy, so the number plate light isn't permanently on - if the lights aren't on the Inforad won't be powered either. I imagine that you usually have the lights on anyway so it may not matter - but I'd still connect it somewhere that's ignition controlled.

Funnily enough Darrel ordered one of the £20 ones for himslef and me today, if there's room I'll stick it on the 404.

Cheers Mark.

Anyone got an opinion as to if they are worth installing, looks to be just a flashing light or am I missing something?

Yes its a just flashing light, but its a well built piece of kit and works well. It will also log your journeys for later viewing on google earth if you wish.

Different thread, but we were mulling over adding a self cancelling sounder to it last night, which I plan to sort out in the next week or three when I get a moment.

Yes, it 's just a single LED - but that provides all the info that it needs to.

I considered putting the aerial in the tail piece but wondered if it might be obscured when I carry luggage, it would probably be fine but the cable is long enough to reach the screen so I put it there.

for £20, it is cheaper then a ticket in the post! a perfect credit crunch kit :D

just about manage to fit the main unit under my SV seat next to fuse box. Experimenting with the aerial position at the moment, got it strapped down to the front brake reservoir as its high and exposed. but still get flashing green light in built up area (central london) :smt017 I assume this is common as satellite signal is easily blocked and 3 is needed for it to work...

The '08 Z750 ABS has so little space unserseat that I have had to sacrifice the tool-kit to fit the Inforad.

Dave compared to the 404 your bikes a transit mate, tool kit? they don't come with one, later I'm melting the rear mudguard to make room for the ECU, I kid you not, I might (and this is pushing it a bit), just might manage a packet of rizla's (although not the big ones) under the seat.

Nice one Lucas. I've got two in the post!

Incidentally can one subscribed dongley doo dah be used in two seperate units?

Yes, the Inforad unit itself is the separate piece held by two thumbscrews, the bit on the bike is just a connector, you could just use one of the actual Inforad units on two bikes.
You can't update two units on one subscription though - the unit is individually recognised by the update software.

You can if you are cheeky. You can save the configuration of one unit and import it into the other

I see...

I tried but couldn't make it work, (it must be said computers are definitely not my area of expertise though), perhaps you might explain how you managed this.

umm at work so difficult to remember. When you update, it saves the update in a directory - went to that directory, renamed the file to March09 or whatever. Then put second device in, selected the import file option and picked it.
Bit sketchy, its from memory.

FYI

Just been on the phone for the lifetime update thing, now £19.99 (same as the unit) instead of £49.99.

Result...............:D

I connected mine to the battery when I got it and checked that it picked up a signal etc. All was well until a couple of days ago when I went to fit it at work. I worked out the neatest way of routing the wires etc and wired it through the number plate light but.......

The wire connecting the led lamp has a dodgy bit near the control box and the light keeps going out of the wire moves. I rang the suppliers and the lady on the phone left me with a positive attitude and it has been sent back for a replacement.

So, hopefully in a couple of days mine will also be fitted.
