just been out for a ride after changing my oil (checked the level since ive been back home and its just below the full line, so looks ok and everything is where it should be and no leaks) and i noticed a slip in somthing when the revs got to 8K, the power didnt want to come and the bike didnt want to rev. I didnt notice this at the start of the ride, was about after 20miles.

Before I noticed this is was thinking how much differance the oil change makes and how nice and free the bike was reving.

what do you guys think?

You didn't use car oil did you?

Other than that, check your clutch adjustment. I've had similar when I wrongly adjusted the clutch in a hurry, went to overtake a truck in an NSL, and the bike crawled past him revving it's nuts off. :(

nope but I did adjust the clutch :smt017

I will readjust it and hopfully it will be ok

I thought it might be that tbh but I dont know how or why it would have affected anything??

just adjusted the clutch, went to start it and...

the bike primes like it should, just nothing when you press the starter

Have you disturbed the clutch switch wires (I think they're just below the adjuster on the lever)?

on the actual clutch lever?

If you look just beneath the adjuster on the bar lever you'll see two little wires and a connector.

I'm not saying it definitely is this, but it sounds possible.

I adjusted it both at the lever and at the worm drive, so might be.

cheers sinbad, they had come loose. such a minor thing, but if the you (the .org) werent here to help life would have been so much harder!!

im off now to see if the reajusted clutch prevents the 8k slip!

...the power didnt want to come and the bike didnt want to rev...

i thought a clutch slip would induce more revs and less go. If it don't wanna rev, i doubt its a clutch problem.

Freaky you should have this issue when I seem to be having something similar.

I'll have a look this weekend and report what I find as at first I thought clutch but again, bust clutch surely = higher revs and no more speed?

However, my issue seems to happen only when I am in 6th but then manifests down the gears but like you after around 20 miles.

Can you briefly describe what adjustment you made?

I adjusted the clutch by the worm drive and at the lever. I had over tightened it I think, it takes such minor adjustments to make a big differance, so i just backed it off a tiny bit and it was fine.

Thanks. All a bit odd but not totally surprising as I had the 8 or 10k service in December and the bike then did nothing till March.

The first winter I have been lame but 40 miles on the M3 was too much.
