View Full Version : Benefits of De-restricting
im looking to de-restrict my SV650 SK1 but what exactly will de-restricting give me ? it still does 100, accelerates pretty fast etc - is it worth the money/effort ?!

If it is the same SK1 as I have, it is easy to do for nothing, if we are talking removing the F1 restricter washers below the carbs.
I am not a mechanic or mechanical engineer & know it can be done in about 30-40mins without any hassle.( Put ours in 3 weeks ago).
Worth having for the extra acceleration above about 7K rpm for if & when you want it.
I think I have the official suzuki restrictor as I have a certificate - but wont know till i open it up !
im also struggling to find a set of unrestricted carb slides for sale anywhere..

If you are within your 2 years, dont do it. You may not get caught, no-one may ever know...
...but if you are in an accident, particularly one thats your fault, then they might find out.
no its all legal - but im fairly new to riding so hesitant if anything - thats if there is any real difference ?!

POWER!!!! As jeremy clarkson would say.
By derestricting the bike will generally be better, the bike is set up to use the power is orginally has rather than half of it, you'll get better throttle response in general which can help in cornering and straight stuff. If you're not comfortable with the power then dont derestrict it, but i speak form experience when i say once you take them out, you wont want them back in.....
lol ! that the plan :)
any idea where i can get some SK1 carb slides - i cant find them anywhere ?

Erm i dont know where you could get them from, mayb just get another set of carbs? Cant be that expensive....
If you have the license for it, run it full power, bike only goes as fast as the right hand is turned :)

Go to first Suzuki salon, and ask about it. But it wont be cheap, in poland 200 zł for one, or buy using carbs with vavle piston without hole :)
ive tried everywhere I can think of and cant find carb slides anywhere - a whole set of carbs is £70 - thought i could de-restrict it for a tenner ?!
