View Full Version : Quick question about SV brakes

Had some trouble with my front brakes, think I've got to the bottom of it now. But quick question what would be a good bet for the front pads?. I've looked at some EBC HH for about £37 or a local dealer has some 'nissin' pads in at £32 which he reckoned were the dogs danglies..but he would say that.

ooh wait actually - bonus question; I'm pretty sure I've come to the conclusion the mastercylinder was at fault (despite replacing the piston and seals in it) I've temporarily replaced it with a cbx500 mastercylinder (which I don't dare take off :p) but would I be better just lumping another standard sv mastercylinder on or would there be any benefit plopping a more powerful mastercylinder on off another bike?
Cheers

Checkout Wemto for pads, I don't know if your price is for one or two sets of pads?

I'd go for the EBC pads myself.

4 pads (two calipers worth)
cheers the wemoto site made the EBC pads look good (and the price!)

As far as i know you can just whack on a master cylinder from for example a CBR600 and get an improvement .

Its something i've been meaning to look into in more detail too. Over to the org experts....

Nissin make the OEM pads (and a bundle of other stuff like calipers). May not have the bite of EBC HHs, but you could do a lot worse.

Cheers sv demon, I just need something asap but (silly I know) I'm a bit apprehensive about putting another sv one (made by nissin coincidently) on as I can't see why the last one failed, and still wasn't working after a new piston and seal kit in there. Very odd - think I'll end up getting one unless I can source something tomorrow.

Cheers simesb, ended up buying the EBC HH's at £38 off the net. I can't stand the spiel they give me at this particular local shop either, makes me want to avoid going in. "oh man you're not gonna believe this man, a special price for you £32 and not only that these man are the absolute balls.....'nissin' "
He did look a bit let down when I was like erm..what are nissin like?

aye hope so.
Think I'll be having andy brads in that case!
Wish I hadn't bought new ****ing brake lines now though in a bid to overhaul everything in ignorance. £45 I didn't need to spend right there lol. Had decent goodridge ones on aswell.

goodridge hoses are a bugger to bleed.

why, what's the difference to any other? :smt017
They've bled okay with this new temp mastercylinder on.

just Im Indoors' experiences with them on some of his bikes, compared to other brands. he just finds them more difficult.

I think its just him;-)

Petevtwin650 has a Gixer m'cyl for sale.
Looks dear for what you want, but what price brakes that work.

lol well difficult is my middlename so I run into difficulties whatever I'm using. New ones are hel anyway, but graciepants kindly pointed out they're going to look graciepants with the gold fittings I;ve ordered on a yellow bike. Brilliant.

Cheers David, worth at least a cuppa on the Skye do. What an incentive:smt081.

The Gixer m/cyl is really for show, although it does improve feel and give more braking force.

The R6 master cylinder is pretty nice, I'm using one again just now... It's got a similiar spec to the standard one so it doesn't massively change things, no super twitchy lever or ridiculously short travel or anything, it's just like a better version of the standard one. Top mounted bleeder for easier maintenance, very direct and un-flexy feel, and not too pricey either since R6 folks often replace them anyway... Forget about radial/axial and all that rubbish, it means nothing, but a well made part is a well made part, the SV one does the job just fine but it can be beat. Oh, but some folks have some issues with clearance against the fairing, I had to cut a wee bit off the lever span adjuster IIRC.

I liked EBC pads in the SV calipers but I didn't exactly try many- they did the job so I never tried anything else. I like Carbon Lorraine in general but I couldn't fault the EBCs at all.

Cheers for your input guys, I'll see if I can source a more powerful mastercylinder off a naked bike today (that's the only problem there aren't many naked r6's or gixxers!)

You'll have to look in the Yamaha or Suzuki range for a performance naked I guess. MT 01 for Yam and that hideous thing Suzuki do with the Busa engine. My mind has blanked it out completely. Phew! :D

Cheers, think I'll end up with an sv one unless local bike shops got anything in at a decent price. If not it's off to swinton...I love beer anyway :-dd
