on reassemley you have three spacers a thick one, a thin one and a yo - yo shaped one, if i remember correctly the thick one and the thin one go on the sprocket side the yo - yo one goes on the brake disk side. is it thin one nearest to swing arm thick one sitting in sprocket? or am i compleatly wrong?
p.s. cheers davenumbers need all help i can get

Go to this site

Choose your year and model of bike, choose rear wheel, and you'll get a nice diagram of where everything goes:D
Edit..................pah, beaten by Charlie13..................but mine's bigger!

for some reason the oil washer will not fit over the axel????
number 16 in the diagram from charlies post, i am confussed
Are you supporting the rear wheel on something? Sounds an obvious question, but even if it's slightly out of alignment you'll struggle.

yep the wife is holding it
yep the wife is holding it
I used to hold the wheel for Pete, but tbh I had problems holding it steady enough, ( it got sodding heavy if he took more than a few seconds to get the axle through) so he used a pile of books to bring it up to the right height

Generally a block of wood is high enough to bring it up to my right height on my Pointy and i can fit the spacers in a do it fast enough so it all holds together. A good hammer helps with alignment too.

the oil seal ring doesnt go back over the spindal

that item 16 (oil seal) you're referring to seats in the sprocket carrier over the sprocket carrier bearing.

Are you sure the chain adjuster block hasn't moved in the left side of the swingarm?
Make sure all the holes are lined up.
Sorry if it's obvious, but I did this last week after I'd swapped sprockets.
Take the wheel out and make sure the spindle passes cleanly through the spacers before offering it up. Then all it's got to do is pass through the chain adjuster blocks.

you mean this one, 30.5mm outside diameter, just a bit bigger than a 2p piece?

apologies for fuzzy pic

every thing is perfect apart from this concave washer without it spindle slips right in no probs

it goes on the end of the spindle after the rectangular plate

Is that the washer that's held between the spindle nut and the chain alignment washer?
If it is then it's got distorted by tightening the axle repeatedly. Beat it flat with a hammer. Then just get a round file and clean it's bore up for now. Replace when u get the chance.

happy to be of assistance :-)
Thank God for that! I'd turned the spare room upside down looking for the rear wheel bits to see if I could figure out the problem, but couldn't find where Pete has stashed them:rolleyes:
Better go put everything back now:p

no shame..
none at all.
that is what this forum is all about..
now next time you will know and do it in half the time and inthe future you can give assistance to someone else who will have the same problem-- because they surely will.. I know I did when I started doing my own servicing etc and now I will do anything- you have to live 'n learn.
well done- all back together- and you made sure you did the chain corectly and tightening the wheel nut up made sure the wheel was aligned- course you did..

Hehe t'otha way around with YC and me, I'd be the one to whack the axle through with the hammer while YC did all the heavy lifting :D
Glad tis sorted Dave, now tha knows!

If that washer is distorted, then you are tightening the axle up too much IMO. The Curvy rear axle nut torque is only 65NM.
Funny story though:p
