my chain started getting rusty so i cleaned my chain and sprocket with a wire brush, some wire wool, some auto sole, some wd 40 and some de greaser.

This is how it came out:

3567 before

3568 in the process

3570 after

looks good :D

You think thats good, Mr Speirs got all racial on my chain the other week and using it as an example of how crap his looked, I was not in the least bit impressed, that was short lived though, as, after a bit of parrfin, a toothbrush and 5 mins of my time, after 10 months of ownership, I found out for the first time that I had a gold chain on my bike

;):pthats for the sprocket your need a wire brush for the chain. if you use wire wool on the chain your be there for hours, pulling all the strands out of the gaps

Am I the only one thinking that it didn't look bad to start with?

You can do mine for me if you want mate... lol

Did it fairly recently (wire brush, brillo pad, WD40, lube), so shouldn't be too much trouble.

I've done it once since I owned the bike, and that was just a wipe down with a rag then lube. fitted a new chain instead lol

Nah mate , I have a DID X Ring chain on with a Scottoiler , it has only been adjusted once since I put it on and has done over 7000 miles so far . Worth the money to pay more and look after them .

Oh dude , you must get one , they pay for themselves with the first chain you put them on , the chain lasts so much longer it`s stupid . My mate has a chain on a GSX1400 thats done 37k with one of those fitted .

doh! Everyone tells me this but I'm my own worst enemy, too tight to part with cash (I know false economy) and too lazy to fit!almost bought one last month but didn't in the end.
Right, i'm on a scottoiler hunt.

Even try a parts search on one of those Breaker search engines , you can get some fairly new Sottoilers on there and order spares off the Scottoiler site . I have at least 3 friends that have done this with no worries , In fact I have tubes and bits from Oilers here as well , I`m sure the Org can cobble you some bits together :) . I have spares due to some bugger knicking my KTM with an oiler on it , and another toerag stole the Touring oiler off the back of my SV after New Years . Got it under the seat now with a nifty pipe placement that you wouldnt know it was there ;) ...... unless you read bike forums :(
