View Full Version : Your SV successor?
What was or will be your next pride and joy after the wonderful SV?
Is it a head or heart decision? based on looks, performance, handling or just because you know it belongs to you? :D
Show us a photo of your SV successor!
I want a SS600...or an 848 (not made of money!)
...young and stupid ayye ;)
Forgot to say...I have my limitations on the SS6 but I am sure we all get the idea. Will test ride a few once I can/need to

Here's what mine was replaced by, more luck than by design as I didn't want to get rid of my SV. So call it fate:

Never thought we'd ever get rid of the Sv, but the looks of the 996 won us over. Miss the Sv nearly every day though.:(

Still miss the SV, since it was not my decision to lose it.
Been thinking about this alot recently. I've wanted a GSXR750 for a while but lately i'm torn between GSXR750, Ninja 636 and R1 ...
I've only just got the SV650 so I'm looking forward to a few years of ownership, in the meantime I'm saving up for my next bike (I don't do finance ;)) and I'm already tempted by the SV1000, RSV Mille would be very nice, my cousin's hubby has one, but I'm not too sure about commuting on an Aprillia - not sure how one would hold up to it
When I first got my bike I missed the SV, but now I don't think I would go back. However if one goes past the other way I love the noise and still think a pointy is a great looking bike. I loved mine.
One thing I really miss though is the amount of customisation you can do to the SV relatively cheaply and DIY........

I would love a VFR800 in white. with panniers and topbox, heated grips, scottoiler.
The plan is so good, im saving up to carry it through...although i might not get a white one. I want a VFR because I think for me it'll be the best bike. Comfortable for all-day riding two up, sporty enough for spirited riding, sounds awesome with LOUD exhausts, plenty of accesories, reliable. Not sured about the VTEC though, so I'll be trying to get a test ride on one soon
The SV will stay....and become my project bike. I'm planning to graft on a GSXR front end (how original) and also I'll remove the top-box rack, I've see some pictures of curvys with CBR rear wheels, I might go for that too, it looks quite good. High level exhaust aswell.
I would love a yamaha R1; reliable (see nick sanders), good intervals between valve clearence checks (24k miles), quite comfy for a sports bike, fast, looks great, handles great (apparently). But the insurance would kill me.

My SV was nicked, recovered & written off (a few years ago now) and was replaced with a Speed Triple 1050.
Haven't really considered this yet... realistically probably a SS600, or a GSXR-750. However if money wasn't an issue... RSV4 or 848

Z750 ABS :)
Tho not really a sucessor, as the SV is still in the garage awaiting the TLC it needs and deserves to get it on the road again :)
I can't decide between a hayabusa, a speed triple or a bandit 1250 GT.
The bandit is cheaper, the triple is sexier, and the busa is faster. Decisions decisions...

My SV was succeeded by itself....after my off I bought it back and got the bits I needed (fairings, levers, bar ends etc) off eBay.
I test rode a Daytona 675 and was very close to getting a GSXR750, but just wanted to get back on the SV for a bit longer

My SV was bought as a hack so I would replace it with the new 660Tenere. Tall thin and gangly fun. Frugal with a big tank , cracking riding position. Presence and a quality build. The right kind of wheels, tyres and chassis for the roads in Glasgow.;)

well my first SV's successor was conveniently another SV. Although now the first one is right again, it won't be got rid of anytime soon.

had a go on a friends once, silky smooth, almost sedate feel to it, just twist the stick and oh look I'm doing 110 but it feels like 50mph... 8 to 10 months and ill be in the money (well enough for a new(er) bike too.
Seriously looking at VFR (Not too sure of the VTEC servicing tho), Sprint ST or Blackbird, regrettably (apart from the bandit and i had an 1100 years back) Suzuki really don't do a faired non pure supersports but tourer type faired bike at all these days (gixxer thou just too damned small).
GS12 was looked at but recent issues with reliability ruled em out for now.

I don't intend to ever get rid of my SV! Had a long hard think the other day about what I would replace it with down the line. Came to the conclusion that I don't want/need any other bike, I like my SV too much! Also considered the fact that I don't NEED to go any faster, or have any more power because, realistically, I won't use it.
For me personally (totally my own opinion of course!) I don't see the need for the 160 odd horses that come with a 1000, or the silly speeds they can do. For track days/racing, it makes perfect sense, but on the road where the speed limit is 70 (even if I do occasionally stray over that!) I just don't see the point.
I would never, ever tell one of my friends not to get a bigger bike if they wanted to because (completely contradicting myself) I can see the appeal of the 750's/1000's etc. Having all that power is alluring and knowing that it's there without having to always use is it empowering.
So for myself, I intend to make my SV the best bike it can be (M4 full system, v-stacks, bmc, remap and gsxr front end all planned!) because I like the fact that it does 0-60 incredibly quickly, can still do illegal speeds if you want it to and the fact that I always get excited when i'm about to hop on, whatever the weather :)
With a bigger more powerful bike, I'd be wary of my right wrist and would probably lose my license very quickly through lack of restraint!

If this year goes as well as I hope then I am thinking of giving up road riding because I dont really enjoy it anymore, so, in the scheme of things, the SV will go up for sale.
I have already got my replacement, which is nearly complete now. A CBR600 Steel Frame for the track.

SV was my first bike, Sprint 1050 was my second, now on to my third. a GSXR750...the bike I should have bought instead of the Sprint!
Sprint was great in many ways, but just doesn't hussle. In fact, a slighty damp road has the back wheel skipping at speeds my old SV wouldn't think twice about. Ended up having a low speed off, got it repaired, new tyres, and went out with the IAM to try and get my MOJO back, IAM bloke drove into the back of me while I was stationary! Needless to say I never did join! Swapped the Sprint for a shiny Gixxer...
