View Full Version : New to biking so for my first bike i got .....
A '04 SV1000 in silver.
And yer - it is a looooooot faster than my 125 lol
Had a test ride on the 650 and loved it. Was going to get one - but then a friend of a friend decided to sell his thou.
After taking a look felt that it wasn't any heavier or trickier to handle than the 650 - so took the plunge and got it.
Gotta say - what a bike!!! although i dont have anything to compare against its a great bike. Find it easy to manoveur at slow speeds, nice and sound around corners (not doing anything too risky though) and love the acceleration!!!
Gonna get some pics and put them up as well. She's fully faired with nice carbon can co exhausts - sounds like thunder when i give her a good go.
Anyway just wanted to say hi to all and looking forward to finding out more on here.
Gonna need a new rear some time in the next few months. Gonna try to decide what to get now.
I love bikes!!! :-D

enjoy mate and velcume
evening all :-D
Sorry didnt reply sooner - been busy - ok well here's a few pics of the bike i've just taken (see at end of post). Also someone asked my age for insurance - im 31, and insurance fully comp with MCE was £320 odd. Good i thought.
For an update - hell of a bike! torque mad machine, love it though. Took the bike home yesterday - so that was a straight forward 20 mile trip.
Then went out today with a mate around the area for a couple of hours.
If anyone knows the area we rode from Usk, old road, to monmouth - then on to Tintern abbey. Then from there onto the old road after the Chepstow race course back to Usk.
Good news - love it - havent riden before apart from a bit on my 125 and the direct access course but it feels so natural. loved the sweeping bends - got a bit chicken coming up to a tight right bend and messed the gears a bit which lead to the rear twitching and sliding a bit but just kept calm and it was easy to sort out. Now i see why people say these models are soooo forgiving.
Anyway took my time most of the time but enjoyed the power when i could
until.......
Sat at a junction turning right across a dual carriage way. Nothing left - car coming from the right but he's signalling to pull off the dual carriage way - ok lets gooooo ooops!! the £"!£!£! farmer in his land rover that was behind me decided not to wait for me to pull out and instead ploughed right into the back of me - i stacked it down on the left and smash.
So on my first day with my bike - i didnt have any problems until some guy decided to ignore the fact i was infront of him and smash me up the ****.
Gutted doesnt really cover how i feel. I have got off lightly though - broken front left indicator , clutch lever snapped, left exhaust bracket bent - slight dent in left exhaust and the tail is a bit mashed.
Gotta decided what to do now - he said he's happy to meet at a local motorcycle garage and pay the costs - i dont wanna go through insurance cause i'll have to pay the 550 excess even though i'll get it back eventually cause its his fault. Two guys on bicycles witnessed it and him admitting causing it so thats not a prob. Just soooo soooo gutted.
Anyway - nice to see you all and hoping to be a long term member on this forum.
I've put pics of the bike and the damage incase your interested. First one is just the bike - will get better pics when i can - second and third are the broken light and clutch lever - fourth is the tail - its broke on both sides and finally one of the cans, its actually the ok one - they make an amazing sound!
Cheers

one hell of a first day you've had wizurd. pleased that you've enjoyed most of it.
that is a kick in the teeth not only your first day on the bike but not even your fault!!!! could be dodgy going privately as when he sees the bill he may change his mind!
well - after the 1st hour or so of being seriously angry lol im still smiling - opening her up is an experience - loved coming out of the corners pulling back and getting on the power (but not toooo quick) so she just takes off. Why i didnt get this done years ago i have no idea.
It has been a bit of a baptism of fire but could have been worse so mustn't grumble :-)

easy repairs hun, I'm sure you'll get the indys and lever off ebay, maybe the tailend as well. Depending on slight dent.....eee we've all got one of those;)
What a complete c*ck.:smt092
Not a good start to your riding experience, but hopefully thats where it ends.
just saw the other replies now - thanks for the support - i've looked up the prices - indicator is only 15 quid - same for the clutch lever - i think the tail sections are the same between 650 and 1000? Its left and right side - the part that goes between the lights ? thats about it.
Well he's well known around the area - old guy farmer. So hoping he will just pay up if its like a couple of hundred to get done at the garage. Only thing i'm worried about is if he could have caused any sort of frame damage or swing arm damage??

Alright mate.. Good on you for not loosing it.. ISHT happens mate and it's how you deal with it that counts, anyone can go postal.
Usk eh?? Probably been passesd you a thousand times, ger yersel on the South West Surfers area. I'm just off the Bath junction of M4 so not really all that far.
Will do - looking forward to meeting up with some people of here some time. As for not going postal - i waited till he'd gone lol To be fair he admitted it was his fault and said this again to the two witnesses - he's been pretty fair - but i cant relax until he's paid up.

agreed. don't count his chickens yet mate.
sorry.
Welcome to the site Wizurd. Nice bike - glad you you're enjyoing it (or were). Sorry to hear about your little incident but **** happens. Similar thing happened to me a couple of months ago at traffic lights and there are still some honest people in the world so if you think he's the honest type and will pay up this will be much easier than messing about with the insurance company. So long as your okay I'm sure the bike will be easy to fix.
Howdy pardner, welcome aboard, quite a first day you,ve had ;) , main thing is you,re ok and bikes can be mended, nice thing about here is you,ll get plenty of offers of help and advice, where you based btw ?
cheers. yer im hoping itll go smoothly - im lucky in lots of ways - could have been worse - lucky ive got a car so can get to work etc etc
Just those miles of bends and acceleration have made it worth while :-)
based in newport - se wales - good point about the support too. Its been great on here and also all the other bikers that pulled over or slowed to see if i was ok today. Gives you hope that good people actually exist.

And most of them are on here!
Welcome to the Org. Me and Stretchie were out on the Chepstow-Usk road yesterday and did it happen at the junction where you come out of the twisties, sharpish left to the junction and then have to turn right onto the dual carriageway into Usk? If it was there, I've always thought that's a horrible junction to have to sit at on a bike with idiots coming up behind you.
I dare say if the farmer is well known in the area and by the way he was so forthcoming with his admission of guilt to you and witnesses, you shouldn't have a problem but I would advise you to just write down the details of what happened and what was said by all involved while it's still fresh in your memory so that you can refer to that if need be later on. It's amzing how quickly little things can be forgotten.
Next time Stretchie and I are heading out that way on the bike, we'll give you a shout and hope you manage to get your lovely new SV fixed up soon!
Yer thats the junction it happened on. twisties to a tight ish left bend to the junction.had her positioned correctly, signalling right then bang. Happened i think around half 12 ish to 1 - i was on the side of the road for a couple of hours sorting breakdown pickup
She's starting ok now - initially she started after the accident so i could get her across the road - but then wouldn't start. Think i must have left her with the park lights on. Battery is charged all good now.
If your around the area then give me a shout - fingers crossed will have the bike sorted soon and i'll be back on it.
Will let you all know how it goes with getting her sorted. As long as theres nothing major wrong i can sort the rest of it

Thought as much, nasty junction. Glad you've got her ticking over again and from the pics and what everyone has said, shouldn't be too much work to get her back on the road as she was before.
Stretchie and I are just off J18 of the M4, so any time you fancy coming over this way too....just give us a shout. You have to like dogs though....we have four!

Hi. welcome. Oh and bugger too.
Welcome, I know that junction, I'm glad you're ok, and I hope to see you around.
cheers all. am getting estimate for damage tomorrow so crossing everything theres nothing major wrong. If all is well may well join ya on the ride out. Sounds like good fun :-)
Hello and welcome. :smt039
Similar thing happened to me at a set of traffic lights (luckily I was in the car), the lights changed and car in front stalled, I waited patiently for them to get going and the car behind set off straight into the back of me!
