View Full Version : Took the zaust off my cg - will it damage it?
My exhaust needs a bit of a clean, so i took it off just now and ill polish it tomorrow.
Out of curiosity i turned on the engine, and it made a very strange bubbling noise (imagine putting your mouth in a sink of water and blowing).
I turned it off after a few seconds because i was a bit concerned.
I obviously dont want to run it without an exhaust, but it will be interesting to see what it sounds like.
Ive seen enough youtube vids of faster bikes without any exhaust, and people seem to say that it doesnt harm the bike, just loses a bit of power, but when it made that sound i was a bit worried despite this.
Is there any way this would damage my bike?

Hmmm... i was kind of hoping for a meaty sound... but it just made me laugh :D
I'll give it a go in the morning at see what it sounds like at higher revs.

Its a 125... i rode my old SV round the block with no can so fun:D
Im a bit worried about the hot air damaging the frame. There seems to be a plastic coating on the frame, and the exhaust hole is pointing towards it.

You mean a mesh over the open hole? I'll just take it round the block, i shouldnt need to cover it just for 5 mins.

You could put a spanner through a cg engine and it wouldn't kill it ;)
I wish they made SV bolts out of CG engines :(
It may sound like a bubble blower at idle, but when you rev it its fckunn loud! Im taking it round the block :D

Na i didnt really look at where the air filter was. I didnt want to do too much to it since i had to re assemble it for college.
Without the exhaust it sounds epic! I rode round the block twice and it was sooooo loud. Everyone was looking at me. I rode past some guy washing his bandit and he looked really confused.
It didnt seem to go as fast as usual, but it sounded amazing.
To be honest i can understand why its illegal :D

If you had a way of measuring it you'd probably find it used up more petrol than normal too. The valve timings on most engines have the inlet and exhaust valves open at the same time so that the departing gases help to suck the fresh mixture into the cylinder.
With no exhaust the hot gases leave faster and pull some fresh mixture straight through the cylinder and out the other side. Result, less power and some petrol wasted, oh and lots of noise from those fast moving gases.
