View Full Version : How loud is a full race exhaust?

Afternoon ladies and gents. I've been looking for a naughty exhaust for my ZX6 and have been somewhat horrified by the prices. An Akrapovic (slip on) pipe is £520. It does have removable baffles however. THen I did a bit of searching and found a titanium micron full system and muffler for around the £400 mark. THe system is a full race job with no baffles, it's cheap as micron no longer exist and the company just want rid. My question is how loud is one of these gonna be?

I had a fuel pipe on the SV (de baffled) and had no problems with it but the kawasaki revs to 15000 rpm. DOes anyone know how much louder the pipe will be and will i need to play with fuelling etc?

Neio would be your best bet for this, lets not go down that road though. Have a look on youtube, see what you think to a few clips. If you want to ask Neio, I have his facebook if you don't, I can message him this.

Possibly Mr Anderson may be able to help too.

i've had a look on youtube and they sound a bit louder but i'm a terrible judge and I just think "yeah thats great". I know there are limits on race tracks though. Just wondered if they were much higher than legal road noise limits.

I won't have the bike for an MOT (already want a KTM) but i do want it to sound more like a bike than it currently does!!

Race systems are still baffled just not for road use. A perforated baffle only. (Basically the same silencer as a road legal removable baffle type with the baffle removed.)

I would not worry about the difference in volume. It will be too little to notice/bother about.

Should give you a nice all round gain after getting it jetted or PCIII'd.

So i'll need a power commander to tune the fuelling. Shame you can't yoshi box tune kawasakis.

The mechanic I use says a full race system will be very naughty sounding on it but didn't discourage me, especially for the price!

its an 07-08 underseat exhaust.

So far i've found an

IXIl which actually is mounted on the side £350
Akrapovic with removable baffle £520
Yoshi Stainless race no baffle £360
Two Brothers Race no baffle £420
Micron one off titanium race muffler with hydratech front pipes system £440

From you tube Akra sounds the best out of yoshi and two bros but i dont know if its £200 nicer!!

Race track noise limit is usually 105dB and usually fairly strict too.

Aye think they do one of those for mine too. Too much choice and aint none of it cheap.. It was easy with the SV.
Fuel can oval, shiny £150. Very nice.

Check the price of the leo. I'm really happy with mine been on a few years and no rust. sounds good too.

it's possible on most cans I think. Kind of defeats the object looks and weight wise but if you're going purely for sound then worth considering.
I get ****ed off with mine to be honest, yeah it's drool worthy and the bangs make crowds of women hit the deck and chavs duck holding their caps but I hate having to smack it in a high gear every time I see a copper and the general worry.

Yeah there is always that like. The SV used to set car alarms off though and the police didnt seem to mind it.
Although apparently inline fours whilst not louder make a much more severe type of loud noise.

Here's mine: http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=119373

Slip on only - well worth the money. I paid £215 from Biohazard Cycles ins the states, 10 days delivery.

According to my girlfriend, I can be heard from quite a way down the road when coming home. When I first got it I though feck this is loud, but its pretty clear that the noise will never compare to a thunderous v-twin.

Power wise, I have not done anything to remap the fuelling etc. It is a bit thinner lower down, but I reckon its only a 5% difference between 6 and 9krpm. I never did a before dyno test, but the after dyno test did come out at a lot more than expected* - 122 rear wheel bhp at 14.2krpm apparently and 45.5 nM at 12krpm.

*These figures are not to be taken as final and seem quite high, but a Daytona 675 and a curvy SV tested at 118 and 52 bhp respectively on the same dyno on the same day, so make of it what you will.

Realistically, the power it puts out is far more than I will be able to use effectively for a while yet, but there we go.

yep really highpitched and rasping. can be heard for miles, I tend to think wind noise swallows up my bellows at higher speeds but a bit of the opposite with a il4

i will tell you just as soon as i fit mine;)

although, im thinking the end can decides the loudness........ so my new race system, is not going to be as loud as my standad setup, with a stubby (10inch) can

Go for micron, you can always put baffle in if it's too loud.

I love my yoshimura R55 system, it's damb loud i struggle to hear other bikes over mine on full chat, but i've always got the baffle with me just incase and it has nothing on it suggesting its not road legal. I've not had any trouble yet and i'm hoping it stays that way!!!

I had a Mircon Ti slip-on for my 675 - Micron rated the exhaust in their instructions at 106dB! How that was tested, I have no idea, but it was very loud - to the point where it was annoying for regular riding and track riding, I wear earplugs.

I've got a full Micron system with a Scorpion end can on my ZX9 and it's quite loud, but gets into any track day I've tried. Also needs repacking as it's sounding quite tinny now...

We measured and my friend could hear it from a mile away!
