I was riding to work this morning minding my own business on the country lanes when infront I see a load of dust and crap........along with a bike and rider clattering into the kerb :o:o:o

So I pass and swing it back round to help, it was pretty damp with rain and abit slippy to be fair so I thought he had taken the corner to quick, turns out a pheasent caught him clean in the face taking him off the bike......written off bike, two black eyes and a broken nose being the result.

I hung about until the police and ambulance arrived then swiftly did one before they decided to start picking at my bike.

Bloody hate pheasents, they sit and look at you with a daft expression on their face, then suicide dive straight into you at the last moment lol

I got my third pheasant the Saturday before last:rolleyes:

I saw it take off and head straight for us and I was thinking 'Not the bike, not the bike! Not Pete, not Pete!'

Nope, me! Thank God for shoulder armour, although my arm still hurt for a couple of days.:(

Was the guy wearing a full face helmet, G?

I had a lucky escape with a pheasant a few years ago..... I was tootling along doing about 70mph when a pheasant flew up and hit me on the side of my neck knocking me out cold. I ended up in a 10 foot ditch with my CBR600 (written off) a dislocated knee, 3 broken ribs and a damaged hip which I finally had surgery on last year.

The paramedics reckon that if I hadn`t been unconscious when I landed I would`ve been killed or suffered a broken back at the very least. It took me ages to get my confidence back and i didn`t buy another bike for a couple of years.

I hate seeing pheasants now and I think my Blood Pressure goes through the roof when I spot one! Glad this guy wasn`t too badly injured and best of luck with his recovery

Wow!

I never realised how kamikaze pheasants were when it comes to bikes.

If it wasn't for all the injuries this thread would be hilarious!

I tend to avoid the motorway for my morning ride into work, it's much nicer on a twisty, empty road through the countryside in my book. Only worry is that on the way there are a couple of large fields that have recently been ploughed up, last week there were 3 pheasants sat there, luckily they didn't make their minds up which one was going to kamikaze me before I got past :D

I had a baby pheasant on the arm at 90 mph, I however, wasn't wearing gear, just a thin hoody. My arm swole up pretty bad for 3 days.

Anyone remember that special biking episode of traffic cops with the bloke on the Fireblade?

Swin
24-03-09, 08:55 AM
I remember that one - they found his bike in the ditch wasn't it?

He didn't look too good after faceful of pheasant either iirc

plowsie
24-03-09, 08:57 AM
Yep thats the one, he had the same injuries, problem was, they couldn't decide what was his own blood and what was pheasant blood.

Swin

Imagine if you got hit by one and you had an open face lid with shades on, yuck - good incentive to keep the visor down I reckon!

I'm sure the guy on the blade had his visor down. Just pure unluckiness really.

Swin

oh yes, I think he had his visor down or there'd be more damage, I was digressing and wondering how much worse it would be if you didnt' though

yep it smashed right through! Must have been doing a fair speed for it to smash through, or would 60mph do it?

plowsie
24-03-09, 09:47 AM
Head on collision could speed it all up. Think him hitting it at 60 would do it though.

Latest pheasant strike news. Chap at work out for a ride on his Bandit, he had riden a section of road a couple of times, as there was a nice series of bends to razz through.

On this last occasion a pheasant jumped out as he was going round one of the bends and this guy rather than run the daft bird over, decided that he'd go straight on into a field

Trouble was coming round the bend was a VW Polo, who paniced seeing the bike heading toward him.

End result was this chap made contact with the Polo thankfully at low speed. Trashed his clocks and headlamp, but no damage to him.

That's todays pheasant news

I hit/was hit by a pheasant last year, between Boxhill and Headley.

Caught my left fairing and left knee- luckily there was no damage from it.

EDIT- 'cept the birdy itself. There was a car behind me- I rode back to check and the bird was headless- not sure if the car had stopped and finished the job or not. I had to stop and sort myself out and inspect the bike. I don't like killing anything, so despite not being to blame, wasn't very happy about the incident. Same with the birdy that flew out in front of me some months later- left a few feathers and blood in the cracks in my right hand fairing.

Damn them. The buggers!

We saw a lot of pheasants while out for a bimble yesterday, mostly live ones in the fields next to the road, I was willing them all to stay in those fields! The roadkill looked fresh

Saw lots of other roadkill too, as to be expected...saw a deer and thought of you Dizz, we know how much you lik....oh no sorry we won't delve into that area again :-P
