Because to do all that would push the cost up and hence push the SV out of its Budget Bracket.

Also those rear indys are illegal in this country

Not sure I agree with that; if done in the factory I reckon you could get something aesthetically similar for £200 more than the cost of a faired one. Cheap USD forks, have the same stock zorst in black rather than SS, metallic painted wheels (which the new bike has anyway, albeit in a less lurid colour). In some respects it's cost less than stock: Less plastics, no snowplough, no fairing brackets, cheaper mirrors.

Incidentally, what's the extra crash bobbin type thing spanning the front upper quarter of the engine? Looks like a cross between engine bars and a crash bung, but it already has a crash mushroom in place...

This is a very unusual bike...

Firstly, it's a K3, this can be seen with the full "suzuki" on the tank (assuming it's not been replaced with an older one); and with the straight subframe. Everything from the K4 onwards on the 650s had a kink in it.

However the frame, subframe and swingarm are black like the K5 and beyond... it looks good here. Unfortunately it's had an undertray fitted, and in my experience these are all rubbish and ruin the back of the SV in the long term. I wish I'd never fitted one now, and have gone back to as standard as I could get it.

Anyway; the owner of this very tasteful machine has swapped the rear shock with something else, and of course stuck some GSXR forks on the front end. He seems to have gone for handlebars rather than clip-ons, but it looks like he's used the GSXR top yoke - this is a really bad move: it's not designed to take the loads and stresses, and is made from quite a brittle alloy. The headlight mount appears to be fabricated from the original - very tasteful!

A few may have cottoned on to the fact that this bike is a dead ringer for mine, even if it is a much neater example (and has arguably more dramatic scenery).
