repairing fairing

Hi All,

Anyone any advice on how easy or not this is to do?

I'm wondering about repairing my rear fairing panels - slight crack on the one and paint chip on the other.

Need to repair the crack and i guess then either respray the parts or just touch up with a paint pen or what ever they're called.

When I got my old bike the fairings were cracked on that, sorted them using some fiberglass on the inside of them then body filler to fill the cracks on the out side of them once you rubbed them down you couldn't tell that they had been repaired

what kinda filler and where dit u get both matirials?

It was auto care easy sand car filler, I got it from a place called walkingshaws up at lilly hall in Cumbria. The fiber glass came from the same place. I cant imagine it would be to hard to find though.

cool - well i'll steer clear of the pens then. Otherwise since the parts arent huge im guessing i can prime and spray them myself without any major issues.

What just be cheaper than having to buy the parts - this is assuming that the guy that ran into me doesnt pay up.

should imagine you'll be able to pick a rear piece up on the evil bay easy enough, if you want to replace rather than repair. Just look closely at the pics they provide, sometimes, they can be disappointing (ask Dave3948575748939499) about his seat cowl!
But sometimes you can pick up some peaches, like I did a fortnight ago with a pair of immaculate fairings :-)

I need to repair the fairing & tail piece on my CBR so will do a photo "How to" if anybody is interested.
I get paid on Thursday, so will be getting my fibreglass then :)

ive had rele good result with welding them back with a soldering iron and cable ties as the welding rod.

some one recomended it on here and it worked well, the inside for strengh then fill the outside, once sanded and painted you cant see it.

quite satisfyinh as well for some reason.

for silver YD8 panels i found eBay the best bet, i got a tail piece for £7 no messing and in mint condition, silver is a common colour and plenty come up on the ebay site.
+1 with what DB said, touchup pens aint great if you want to keep that mint look.

would never have thought about soldering iron and cable ties lol It's worth a try though.

I've been trying to source the panels. I think that a pointy of the sameish age (regardless of engine size) will fit me thou.

Manage to get a breakers to find all the bits for the tail - 109 quid all together and its the right colour.
