View Full Version : it's a bit windy!
Did anyone else struggle this morning?
I was on the M1 (J1-9) and it was fine until I got to an exposed bit and felt like i was hanging for dear life- i'm going to have to eat lots of pies at lunch to weigh myself down a bit on the way home (either that or admit defeat and get the train).
Presumably just slowing down and trying to keep lots of space around you is the way to go but i wasn't enjoying the 2 wheel experience today :(

It is slightly breezy out there today. Makes the ride very interesting and twistedly fun if you have enough road to correct the gusts.

Go careful on your way home then. Hate being in the bike in the wind, especially going over the old severn bridge.....really strong gusts. I'm on the back so just have to sit there and hope for the best and stay with the bike!
Eat pies and doughnuts.....spoil yourself, you have a good excuse!!!

Stick with it, mary!
There's a certain masochism in riding these things in adverse conditions, but practice that & your riding will only improve. ( Not that it needs to )
It wasnt that windy on the train this morning, however, i went out at lunchtime, and blimey! Tis a bit breezy
Try it on a CG :(
I had quite a few close calls with the wind today and yesterday.

I could feel it in the car, was glad i couldn't take the bike!
thanks all.
I was a bit scared this morning to be honest but i'm feeling much calmer about going home now. (i'm glad i'm not going over any bridges though! )
And on the bright side the M1 is normally incredibly boring - at least I had some excitement :D

I find going a bit faster and keeping the revs high-ish helps with the wind
nearly ended up in the side of a car this morning with the gusts

Not a chance thank you very much, no power and weight to counter act the gusts. Nasty.
Cars end up going slower, bikes need to go faster.
Bikes are never dull are they?

Theres nothing i can really do. I just keep my body relaxed and when it blows over to one side of the road, try and center it again. The A127 was nasty yesterday, i had to drop down to 50 and a massive tesco lorry overtook me which created huuuuuuge gusts from the side of it [-o<
Ooooh! I HATE the wind! Would rather ride in snow and ice than go out in the wind! SCARY!!! I go over the Erskine Bridge every day to work, and hate it even when ther isn't a hare's breath of wind!

I find looking further up the road helps in wind, seems to help my balance. also tucking in well if you have fairings helps

I was ok, but after filling my topbox with shopping it was more sporting.

Urg... don't like riding in the wind at all, a hefty gust caught me on the M62 on monday and nearly put me under the wheels of a Palletline truck. Must have missed it by no more than a metre.
Got the train to work yesterday and today but my season ticket has run out. Back under the wheels... I mean, back on the bike tomorrow...[-o<

As ASH said above, going quicker can often be the way to go. Pretty much how a ship needs to be going fast enough so that the current doesn't affect it.
Try and get as close to the bike as is comfortably and safely possible, try to relax and don't overcorrect every little movement.
Cheers Pete and everyone else for the advice.
I enjoyed it on the way home. There's certainly never a dull moment on a bike.. bring on the weekend!!! (rain and wind apparently :))
