On sunday i came out of work, on the way home i reached a roundabout, sitting at 30mph, so clutch in, blip of throttle, down in to 2nd, Before i let the clutch out the back end lock up and kicked out. I tried restarting it, no oy, couldnt select a gear either. So pushed it off the road, got it started, and away i go again, except this time it feels as though the back end is wanting to push out, eg its feeling very light. I thought, right mmm puncture, checked it, nothing. Road at 30mph to the nearest garage, checked the pressures, fine. Ive ridden it home, about another 10miles. Went out on it this morning, and it still feels the same. Almost as tho it isn't connected to the road, went around a corner. Brake lightly for the junction and the back end wanted to go to my offside. I havent been going at speeds even close to what i have done before because of it. But its beginning to bug me now. So much so im a bit frightened to go out on the bike. I've been out there. Checked the chain - about 2.5mm of play. alignment is spot on, nuts done up nice n tight. No play on the back wheel. When ive got the bike up on the paddock stand nd let it run on engine revs the chain isnt moving smoothly, it will go and have a wee "jerk" (excuse the expression) now n again, Its not sliping at the rear sprocket, im assuming thats because theres no weight on the rear wheel tho. Ive gave the pre-adjuster on the suspension a wee tweek around aswell. It was set at 6 which is its 2nd most stiffest, so dropped it to 4 which is the factory recommended

Thats a bit tight!! It should be about 25mm from top to bottom.

oops. my mistake. I meant to write 2.5 CM (25mm) lol Sorry. mmm strange, just went out there and it feels ok. It gave what sounded like a backfire a couple of times tho. Once when i strated the bike and gave it a wee bit of throttle

is the rear brake binding at all?

nope. rear brake is fine. CHecked it all, its only been rebuilt new pads etc at the back. What i have noticed is when im moving i can hear the front discs/pads rubbing, like a mild grinding noise. Is this normal? if i push the bike it is fine, no resistance etc

Bone question, but I'll ask it - got any oil/grease/slippery stuff on your rear tyre?

Whatever the cause of the slippery feeling it sounds like your chain isn't perfect.
Get the bike back on the paddock stand and turn the rear wheel slowly by hand, feeling for tight spots and looking for kinked links along the bottom. Make sure you adjust the chain tension on the side-stand though.

This might sound stupid, but check the front end. I had a problem with a wierd handling feeling, thought it was the back end, but after checking tyre pressures I found that the front tyre pressure was quite low.
Might be worth a try

Swinging Arm Bearings?

Get the rear in the air and see if the swing arm will move side to side.:batman:

Check the suspension linkages too. Mr Suzuki didn't put much grease in either the swingarm bearings or the linkagages.

I've just taken out my swingarm pivot and the centre section showed a lot of heat discolouration in the centre. Nothing serious, but I made sure I greased everyting really well when I put it back together.

All the heat from the exhaust & rear engine can't do this area any good if there isn't any lubrication

Grease the linkage bearings too

Also check all the engine mounts are torqued up correctly. The handling on my SK3 went off and I couldn't find anything wrong until a couple of weeks later when I was cleaning her. The adjustable engine mount behind the gear linkage was loose and the nut was only being held in place by a breather pipe. Re-tightened the mount and handling sorted.

This happened to me when i was newish to the bike. gave it some around a corner and the rear lost abit of traction and just slid out abit. didnt highside or anything though. the bike just felt all wrong after that, but after checking lots of things I came to the conclusion that it was all in the mind.

so it might be that for you too? worth a thought if you cant find anything wrong!

Ive had a couple of people suggest that aswell. Ive only been riding big bikes for about 5 weeks so still relatively new. Maybe i just need to get out and about on it, regain my confidence. I'll do everything people have suggested first tho, just to be on the safe side :)

Had that problem with my curvy. It felt like the back end was fastened to the front with wool. When I took it to get it checked it turned out the front forks were worn out ,thus causing the front tyre to wear unevenly.
I took it back to the dearler who said I was being silly. That caused a row in itself.
To show me I was wrong ,he took it for a spin up the road......and bloody fell off.
I would there be having alook at the front end as well as the back.

Would it just happen within a minute tho? It wasnt building up to it. It was tight as a tight thing until my lil mishap. Its only got 14k on it to

ah ok.maybe its something really random then. Are the fork fittings slightly loose, enabling the forks to twist in their mounts,a tiny amount.

Add the wheel bearings to the list of things to check. You'll need to pop the bike on a paddocks stand to get the wheel off the ground. Then hold the rear wheel with your hands spaced at 180° around the circumference of the wheel. See if you can rock the wheel side to side. There should be no play. You should try this with the wheel spun to different positions.

If you're not sure how to check, take it to a friendly local bike shop.
