My last bike i was able to keep in my parents garage but since moving out and getting my own house ive come across one little problem.....I DONT HAVE A GARAGE!!

So my question is how do you store yours to protect it from the elements and keep it nice without a garage??

Im not so worried about security as afterall it is insured and i am in an enclosed area down a private road so originally i thought just get a cover, so off i went to get one and the person in my local HG asked "what du want it for?" obvious answer i thought was to cover my bike!!! lol long story short she said it wont do it any favours keeping it under a cover as it will trap condensation and still rot all the cheese on there....Great!!??

So now that im at a loss as to what to do i draw your attention to my original question. Any ideas would be welcome i have a driveway and a garden and was thinking along the lines of one of these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MOTORBIKE-BIKE-COVER-SHED-MOPED-STORAGE-GARAGE-BARN-NEW_W0QQitemZ160305266808QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Mot orcycle_Parts?hash=item160305266808&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318). Anybody have any experience of them or an alternative?

Many thanks Dan

Why not build/buy a shed?

Saw those bike covers at the NEC... surely it's just the same as using an ordinary cover, other than it won't touch your bike.

My bike has been under a cover for 6 years, no rot on my cheese, it's a curvy too, so it might be they were built better before the accountants took hold of the SV range....

Well mines a k8 nd ive heard that they seem to be the worst year for rotting. Cant find a shed with those measurements 8"lx4"wx5h" ish that has doors on the end and not on the side as i dont want anything to big to take up all the room i have.

Sheds are fairly easy to build, and cheapish if you can scrounge some of the wood. If you already ahve a garden wall or something you could build a 'lean-to' type shed.

I got a cheap metal shed from ebay, never thought of keeping the bike in it.

Also, the shed is flat pack, but will not fit thru a post box...

protech shelter. Look it up, my SV is in there along with a CB250 engine + frame, paddock stands and a little seat for working on the SV.

A mate of mine is selling a bike safe, and once I've built me shed I'll be selling mine.

those protech shelters are very expensive, could get a gazebo 3 times the size for less than the smallest!

It's a K8, if you don't keep it on the sheepskin in front of the fire, it will rot.

What price for the bikesafe?? ive seen a few on flebay and a different one with a roll in base that the front wheel locks on to they would be ideal if i could get a good price on one. Ive also seen that leanto metal shed but the door looks a little small?? I have spent a good few hours looking not much has inspired me so i just want to know what all you guys do, If i brought it indoors i would find next time i took it out the locks would be changed behind us!!

Build a shed yourself. That way you can have it exactly how you want it with the doors on the end!

Ok got the bike barn.....Looks like it would do the job but im not happy with the rusty poles and chips in the paint its ment to be new for god sake so it's going back.....I HOPE!!!
Only problem with the product it's self is having to hold up the front rip up right whilst putting ur bike in and on the stand also having to fold in the mirrors aswell.

So looking at covers i think instead what have you guys tried and tested?? cheers Dan.

Oxford stormex is a good cover.

My mate has had a gsxr600k3 under the worlds thinnest bike cover for 3 yrs and it's fine. I've only had my curvy under a cover for 3 months but that's fine too. That tent thing will probably get nicked if you ever do need it for security :p and it's probably not portable.

DanSV

Bike barn (Tent) is more on a semi perminant fixture and can be bolted to the ground, like i said not bad keeps bike under a loose cover which ive been told is better than a fitted cover as any condensation transfers straight onto the bike

Well fair enough but i haven't had any problems, i've got an Oxford Stormex with one of those furry linings and i'm sure it works, not ever had any water in it or anythin'.

Im heading towards one of those, from what ive read in the last half hour on different sites they seem to be well rated. what size will i need though?

Thingus

I've got a medium for my SV which is fine for all sportsbikes really, small is for little Chinese things, and large is for tourers and harleys, stuff you would really wanna cover up for sake of embarressment.

Yeah medium is fine :p

got the larger version of the bike-home. Didn't want a shed because the ground isn't level and its a loose stone driveway. I think its great - tall enough to stand in and we can just squeeze two bikes in there, and one is a fat cruiser.

It does seem to suffer a little in wind and isn't totally waterproof, and the instructions it came with were totally wrong, but even then it only took an hour or two to assemble. With one bike left outside you could even do work in there.

We've only had it a couple of weeks so don't know how long it will last - but for now it seems pretty good.

at my previous house i got some ally scaffold poles, clamps, and made a frame. Then got some cammo tarpaulin and made a bike sheddy thing. Few slabs on the ground. Cost buttons and worked pretty well.

Or pop down the docks and get a used shipping container, last time I asked a mini one was £400 + delivery, but bigger than a shed and totally secure

Bout right, we paid 900 each for two used 40fts, but i doubt neighbors are going to be impressed with a big pink rusty container sitting on the front lawn ^.^

Yea her indoors wasnt best pleased with a big grey tent, we were both worried wot the neighbours would think of that.

+1

I kept my previous bike under cover for 4-5 months. didnt experience any rusting or anything.

Having said that, it was a honda, which apparently are built better.

I'd just put it under a cover anyway to be honest.

If you're bike was previously listed as garaged PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE update your insurance details to remove the clause on the policy now that it's not. THEY WILL F*&K YOU OVER if you give them even the slightest chance (got the t-shirt) - do it now rather than later as later could be after your bike goes walkabout....

Sound advice but that was my last bike when i had a garage.... i have a new bike now at a new address with a new policy so all is in order.

Just a thought some companies dont charge that much for a bike not being garaged so surely its worth the extra few quid to avoid the clause just in case a person should come home and not put the bike away and it get nicked.
