I was working last night. We were in the office having a cup of tea talking about my ex being a bit of a bunny boiler when one of the guys said...and kept going on that...I will (apparently) still be on the shelf in 20 yrs time unless I change.
I think he was joking....maybe but he wouldnt stop going on and I have found it really hurtful and cant stop thinkin about it.
Probably just posting this for the guys to make letchy comments to cheer me up ;) but anyway, please discuss.....
I reckon that the guy saying that stuff:
a) wants inside your granny knickers,
b) is a closet bunny boiler himself,
c) both of the above.
Probably c.
HTH. :)
Dont know ya so can't comment...simple!

What was his reasoning behind his comment???
Probably just a case of him trying to be clever and stick up for men in general!
Forget him!

He's probably seen your avatar, enough to put anyone off! ;)
Seriously though, the guy probably just enjoys winding people up.
A comment like 'If all guys are as big a t*sser as you, I think I'll die single'
would have been appropriate especially in front of other people

Isnt MBK a cop?
So if it was at work then the guy in question is also a cop.
So might be trying to be clever, but inevitably failing :P
hehe

Its the way he's been brought up, they still think a woman place is in the kitchen, didnt embrace the swinging 60's when he was younger

I do! Just thought it was a bit of a personal attack. He kept going on that I need to change or no one would put up with me. I think it's cos I have a bit of "I dont give a feck" persona....but thats just kinda something I have found I need being a young female in the polis...doesnt mean I dont give a feck, just pretend I dont!
dont worry about it im sure he didnt mean it in a nasty way. if he keeps doing just mention to him that you dont like it, im sure your be fine :D

I would of took that as he was just messing, isn't something somebody says seriously?

If anyone ever says something like that, just say that if he knew you on a personal level, you might take the advice, but as he knows the sum total of bu&&er all about you, he can carry on as it has no meaning.
Or....if you were me......you'd just say, "who says I want a relationship? All I'm after is sex!"
Might not be true, but would certainly shut him up!

Ahh, personality vs projected personality!
Seriously, this guy sounds like a tosser and trying to get a rise out of you. Women do seem to be more sensitive to this sort of stuff than men; as long as you are happy who cares?
Sounds like he touched a nerve and just kept going. Don't give him the satisfaction of rising to it again.
Just my pennysworth!

In his mind he is saying the truth no malice .... just good old fashioned advice.........get a ring on that finger.ASAP..
i would give him the benifit of being old, and not in touch.
(mention gays and see the fireworks.... )
MBK.............don't worry about it. The guy is obviously of the generation that considers a woman can't be fulfilled unless she is in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant, with half a dozen snotty-nosed kids hanging on her skirt, getting her Lord and master's dinner ready for when he gets home.
What a horrible thought that is, eh?:D
Why should you need to change? If you are happy with yourself as you are, then someone else will also be happy with you as you are. Changing yourself to 'get a man' is stopping you being true to yourself, and you can never be happy if you are not true to yourself.

Yeah, the scroats regularly say a lot worse but I never really care what they say cos they don't know anything about me, just swearing at the uniform more than anything. Even when I'm getting kicked in the head, it's not personal, its against the uniform.
DILLIGAF?????? please explain?

To be honest are you sure he meant it nastily?
I have to explain to anyone that wants to spend any sort of time with me that I am literally a moron. sigh, I've said worse - didn't mean it badly at all.

While I agree with the suggestions to not pay much attention to it, dismissing it with a DILLIGAF attitude would be foolish and and somewhat arrogant in my point of view. However, I think he defeated his own argument for you.
From my point of view he might be coming into this arguing that you still be generally the same kind of person, doing the same type of things, attracting & going out with the kind of people that like cooking rabbit stew.
I cannot concur with this kind of argument. I really do not believe that you will still be in the shelf in 20 years time, mainly because I am sure that you will be a different person in 20 years time. And there is plenty of evidence to support this based on the brief glimpses of your personality that you show on this forum.
The very fact that you stopped and asked for a second point of view, regardless of the fact that you done to feel a bit better, instead of closing up & dwelling upon it shows that you are willing to listen other points of view and perhaps change your stance based upon them. Never mind the fact you seem to seek out new experiences in your life through your motorcycle and other friends you meet through that hobby or on this forum.
In this life, the ones that you hold dearest are the ones that can cut you up the most. It's one of those sad facts in life, it does not mean you should close yourself to everyone, but it's not something special, most of us has been through it at some point. But the rewards of having of people that you hold dear far out weight the danger they might pose of hurting you. Just an observation, but I stray too far from the subject at hand.
I believe it would be foolish not to learn something from the act of him making a comment, I am not inferring that he had any malice when doing it, but it would more foolish to place any great amount of value upon it, however many times he might have tried.
Of all the points & arguments that have been put forward so far might I suggest you place highest value on Lissa's last point of being true to yourself. Everything else, however hard it may seem, will just fall in place.
PS. Sorry, I couldn't come up with a letchy comment.
I wouldnt worry too much about it, I didnt get married til I was 31, mind you I did spend 18 yrs in prison, bloody rozzers fitted me up,anyhoo tell him to feck off and get a life.

My FIL comes out with tripe like that too, and I've been married to his son for 17 years!
Different generation - might be worth pointing out that nowadays you don't need a man to validate yourself, and when you do decide you'd like one you'll be sure to take his advice-at this point wink, it winds them up well.

Probably should have replied with something like "And you'd still be at the back of the queue".
Always have a better one!
Ignore the old gimmer and have fun while you're young
Life is too short to put up with idiots and to$$ers
Or....if you were me......you'd just say, "who says I want a relationship? All I'm after is sex!"
I dont see any problem with this.
not read all the thread, so apologies if i repeat something already said....
this boy is 65, i dont know your age but looking at your avatar....oh jesus. are you 6?
seriously tho, he's 65, you're what? in your 20's? i'm a 40 and i'd never have the brass neck to assume i know what goes on in the life of somebody 20 years younger than me, if i was 60 judging somebody 40 years younger would be even more ridiculous
he grew up a world where rationing was still in effect, his first date was probably in 1958/1959!! the wheel wasnt even invented then!! he's just from a different generation.
i love you x
