thats a different one? I know somebody who's mirror dropped off his ped, he leant down to pick it up, throttled still on (idiot) and it went off into a bush, hilarious.

I was following a tipper truck once, on an A road, doing just shy of 60. Then the guy went plunging into a huuuuge puddle (from a flooded ditch) that spanned both sides at a dip in the road. He then proceeded to slam on the anchors.

I braked as hard as I dared but couldn't stop before the burst ditch. The engine almost instantly stalled and locked the rear wheel. It got a bit out of shape but then straightend up and i stopped. It was so deep it was above the top of my boot when I put my foot down. 40 miles from home with a boot full of manky water. Niiiice! :smt091

I have no intentions to try riding into a canal just to answer your question tho.

Ridden my SV through a Ford on purpose - was soaking wet from rain and had recently been driven through it in a CRV so I thought I would give it a go.
Also rode through deep flooding on my ZX7R that was under a railway bridge - didn't see the extent of the flooding in the dark.
Survived both encounters.

Was that what you were after OP?

We used to do lake leaping on mountain bikes.

Have you ever ridden your bike into a lake or canal, and if not, why not? You should lead by example and make sure to post pics and or vids of the event.

I rode my SV through a Ford, although it was by accident.

You see, he did a right turn across the front of me from the middle lane without indicating. Bloody students!

I was on a rideout maybe last year some time, following Pete & Lissa. It'd been raining pretty heavily, and there was a dip in the road ahead that had filled with water.

Pete didn't slow down, so I consciously opened the throttle a little.

The water was deep enough to be above the pegs if we were slower, but made a nice impressive bow wave, and with my high level can & increased revs I wasn't worried about water down the exhaust.

Test the brakes afterwards & carry on.

Does that count? I'm sure a number of folks on the .Org did exactly the same on the same rideout.

I'v ridden through smoke twice.

The first time it was just smoke covering the road and a fire going in a dried up field.
Second time was not fun and I will never do it again. I thought it will only be as bad as before due to it being a fire on the moores in the same area. Set off through the smoke and it was like 2mtr visablity with flames flicking up across the road.
Nearly binned it cos I get disorented and lost my balance.
I had to stop in the road and set off again!
I got to the other side and all I could feel was relief. There was a copper on the other side

'Have you just ridden through there?'
'Erm yes, I didn't realise it was that bad'
'Get out of my sight before I arrest you'
'Bye'

So in other words no mate but DO NOT RIDE THROUGH SMOKE lol

haahaa I did that on a rideout up pately bridge last year. It was when there had been a lot of floods and a lot of roads were closed. On the way back there was a huge puddle(read small pond) off a sliproad onto the dual carriage way, and I rode through it like a bat out of hell. Had to lift my feet up onto the mtosliders to no get wet. Having that nice tail tidy made a giant plume onto SV-GXR's (lukes) head.:smt098

He said it was the last time he was riding behind me in the rain again.

this thread is great, i am wetting myself!

I rode my SV through a deep puddle. I was worried more about the water soaking the front plug, so i pulled the clutch in and kept the throttle open, yum yum

I've ridden my mountain bike over a frozen lake before.

I fell over 3 times, then on the 4th time, the ice gave way. :(

Was a good laugh though. I did it because someone said "I bet you daren't..." and I was young...

Eh em, might have been lol. It was so scary never taking the chance again. I will go the long way around if it happens. As if you could see it from there more impressive from 3/4ft away.

One of my favorite childhood memories is reversing a pedal go-kart at high speed into a canal. Fortunately it had water in it at the time, or I would have made a right fool of myself.

An ex of mine has! His lodger had a cruiser (dunno what it was, it was in the 80's) and for a laugh they thought they'd ride 3 up along the canal tow path. Well his lodger lost control and all three plus bike ended up in the canal. Bike was never to be seen again as his lodger was too embarrassed to report it to the police or his insurance company!
It took me months to find out why his bike was missing from my ex's garage!
