Ive been creating a video on Windows Movie Maker and have managed to save a WMV version of the file, however I want the movie to play on a standalone dvd player (VCD or SVCD should be ok?) however I need to convert the WMV to Mpeg without any loss of quality. I was hoping there was some freeware apps about to be able to sort this but its a real minefield.

Does anyone know where I can get one and which one I should use? Ive got Burning software so dont necessarily need it to do that, just to convert it to a format in which I can create a VCD.

Best I could manage was that I have no trouble converting WMV to any format (haven't done to VCD as I dont use that format).

Only issue is that I do it all on Linux using Avidemux, which I dont know if it exists on Windows,.

So not a helpful answer, but as you asked for answers....

Google for GPL Windows VCD Creators maybe?

I would guess that as long as you can play the WMV on your PC, any Output Creator/Convertor to VCD would be able to handle it as an input file.

I have a copy of Pinnacle Studio 10 which does the job much the same as WMM but gives you the ability to output it to nearly all formats, and also convert files to different formats.

Nero might be able to do what you want it to as well. I dont know of any free aplications, unless you class BitTorrent as free ;)

Try ffmpeg or Super (super uses ffmpeg as a back end) they are both excellent, and free!
