Now I'm usually pretty good at finding these things out using google buy I cant find this out and the sticky thread does not answer it, and the link within the sticky thread does not work.

I only have 6 digits on my number plate, so does this mean a 6.5" x 6.5" plate would be legally sized?

On websites such as craigsplates it seems to suggest that it is a legal UK size for 6 digits but I cant find any confirmation of that.

Finally, can anyone recommend any good bike number plate websites or is craigsplates about the best out there?

(Yes I have finally been fined for my nuber plate :smt079 lol)

No its not. 9 x 7 is the only real legal size, you might get away with smaller but it depends on the size and spacing of the letters on your plate.

I've been buying my plates from a guy on ebay called "rorysplates" £11.99 including postage and next day delivery, but I dont know if he is still trading...

6 Digits would be lost in a 9 x 7 plate.

Just been reading the confusing DVLA site and it looks like the size of the PLATE can be anysize.....providing the characters are the right size with the correct spacing. So if 6 legally sized digits can fit within a 6.5 x 6.5 piece of reflective acrylic with the correct spacing, then its legal.

I guess craigs plates and other sites would not have the option otherwise :confused: they seem pretty much by the book nowdays.

Nah, they were nice chaps with guns.....could have been worse if they were in a bad mood to be honest.

Might be safest to buy a normal size plate with your 6 digits then trim off the excess yellow

G, is it a single line number plate?

And anyway, I've just worked it our from http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/leaflets/inf104.pdf

Height = 64mm + 64mm + 13mm + 11mm + 11mm = 163mm = 6.5"

Width = 44m + 44mm + 44mm + 10mm +10mm + 11mm + 11mm = 174mm = 6.8 inches

So technically a 6.5" x 7" plate is legal for a 6 number motorbike reg.

I have had a 6.5X7 with six digit number for years[Same plate 4th bike] and never had any problems with MOT or being stopped in a check
Providing the spacing,font,reflective quality[BS] and the name of the supplier is on the plate ,no problem,you are conforming to the DVLA specification regarding number plates

There is no mention in the DVLA information about a legal number plate size.

Its all down to the text layout, size, font and the reflective area around the text.

apparently so, bikes have to be on two or three lines.

Just ordered a 6.5" x 6.5" and the website says its legal and is advertising as such so I'm going to take there word for it. They sell show and legal plates so should know better than anyone I guess.
