OK guys...I blame you! :p
After reading here over the winter, I rebuilt my bike....new can, progressive springs, ZX636 shock, tail tidy, motosliders, db screen...
Insurance renewal came, £77 TPFT...I shopped around...£66...mentioned the mods - £300! :smt120
I can't get it under £230 - I've tried Adrian Flux, Bennetts & Express - I've had quotes of £5,000! :smt088
On my car policy I can have 33% extra BHP for £25 more!
Has anyone got any suggestions of insurers who are mod friendly?
dont bother with the springs
i personaly would not bother with the tail tidy/screen/shock/motosliders
If the shock was a olhins then mabey.
You're complaining about having a quote for you're bike with all them mods for the 'shocking' price of £230...? :)
Trying being a young rider.. :(

But surely when they see a modified bike in the event of a claim, then I lied on my policy, they won't pay out, I will have to pay for damages to 3rd party injuries myself, I won't ever get insured again...and I will go to hell. Bad idea not declaring mods.

I was once! Rode since I could pass my CBT at 16 :D
Thing is I've never had an accident in 10 years of riding, never made a claim (car or bike), only do 2,000 miles and the bike's worth a grand.

If you bump someone else it doesn't matter unless this is the reason it affects your accident which they won't. Under Fully comp as well they will normally only pay out on standard replacements.
I've found ebikeinsurance.co.uk good for this... they're aware of all my modifications (plenty!) and the premium really didn't go up much.

did the screen/springs/crashprotectors/tailtidy have anything to do with the crash?
unless you are really silly and the police impound the bike, get it delivered home and change things

I'd be happy if I heard that from the horses mouth - will have to do some phoning round! I'd be happy for these bits not to be replaced under a total loss situation.
FWIW - my car got repaired on someone else's policy when they drove into it whilst it was parked. The inspector 'let me off' when he gave me a moment with his back turned to swap the modified bits back to standard.
I don't think you guys realise that insurers will use *any excuse* not to pay out in the event of a claim, regardless of fault. My girlfriend and sister have both worked in insurance, one in claims and one in sales. If it was your insurance firm, and you had a way to get out of forking out thousands on claims, wouldn't you avoid paying wherever possible?
+1 for ebike. I got a quote of £75 TPFT, or £115 FC, with the mods.
I've got about 15 declared on the SV, and 3 on the R1.
You even get a discount for using crash bungs! It's not a gimmick either, as you can add/remove stuff from a declared mods list when you quote online and check what affects the price.
I got a quote with/without my oxford U-lock, it didn't drop the quoted price so i left it off. Means I'm covered for theft, even if i aint fitted it. ;)
Just tell them none of the mods are performane enhancing & your willing to replace with std parts should you make a clam - shouldn'taffect your prmium from £66

Express Insurance told me that providing I had an engineers report covering my GSXR front and rear the premium would not be affected.
Lets see what happens when my renewal comes in...
Upto the GSXR mods, all other mods were declared and they didn't affect the premium at all - can, screen, R+G's, tail tidy, lowers, seat cowl, alarm, datatag...

+1. I declared everything (see my signature) to mine. Providing it doen't boost BHP, they don't care. They did, however, stress that in the event of a claim it'd be replaced with stock.

I used HR insurance (NIG), no problems with mods, now, I'm with Express Insurance (NIG again), same story with mods.

Try "uprated suspension" rather than "I've bodged on 2/3rds of some random other bikes I found in a skip." Seems to go down better with them...
I'm with bikesure.
