View Full Version : Has anyone made home made abba stand adapters?

Because I'm tight and because I have three bikes I was wondering if it's possible to make good enough adapters for abba stands? I was going to try with some big bolts, big nuts and a grinder. I have little holes in the sports bikes (oo er) and I'm not sure it'll even fit the banger.

I thought I'd screw and lock two nuts onto a large enough bolt to slip into the abba's standard hole and grind down the thread if the shank (?) is large enough for the pivot point hole.

Here's an artists impression:

Any thoughts?

It might rattle about a bit if you don't get it right. Have you not got a mate who will turn you some from a bit of barstock when persuaded with a couple of packs of fags/beers?

Should be fairly easy to chuck the shank of the bolt in a drill and spin it up to grind the head down to true if you do decide to bodge it though...

Afraid not.

Nice idea with the drill!

There are such blokes hiding in sheds everywhere... you just need to find one!

No, but I have some genuine Abba stand adapters unused, still in their packet somewhere in the garage - you interested?

Well it depends on what bike they fit! I have a Daytona 675, a '98 ZX6R (G1) and a '98 Transalp.

The stand I have is essentially the same ( , copy? no, never) as the Abba. The stubs are made of silversteel, readily available in all sorts of sizes and a lot stronger than your average bolt.

The only other things I'd suggest is black finish capscrews, usually 10.9 or better steel and probably up to the job if you can find the appropriate size.

surely your not going to risk your bike falling off the stand due to bodged adaptors?
the £15 you saved will seem like a drop in the ocean compared to the repair bill!

They are for an SV - this is an SV site after all :D

 Someone should tell the Soho organs that! I'll check an SV when I see one next to see if they look compatible.
