View Full Version : Anyone Not Doing the rideout?

Some may say a strange question to ask....

This however is by no means against the amazing route that has been organised but for me the highlight of last year was the social aspect. On that note therefore going to have a nice relaxing boozy weekend with like minded friends so probably wont be attending by bike, but by car instead.

Going to hopefully sunbathe (touch wood!!!!). So was wandering who else was thinking along the same lines as a number of people didn't do the ride last year.

So far I plan on doing the rideout, but as anyone who saw the state of me on AR07 will tell you, that is subject to change at the last minute!

re subject to change.

Do you mean directly proportional to the alcohol intake the previous evening. You is just a wimp, a lightweight. Sod off down south with all the other shandy supping pooftahs where you belong.

Note to all non shandy supping southern pooftahs, please do not get upset at the stereotyping. It is just that Andy SO FITS the stereotype.

Is that not a contradiction? There is going to be plenty of time to socialise during the day of the ride. Or you could veg on a nearly deserted campsite while the majority are having a hoon of a time. The ride is planned for the Sat for a very good reason.

Friday arrive a few sociable beers, some food, lots of fun.
Sat the ride, socializing, getting back and partying all night with beer, drugs* and BBQ.
Sunday, breakfast, recover and go home to sleep.

*Of course that bit is a joke as no one will be breaking the law all weekend.

What I am meaning is that I dont fancy riding my bike all the way there, being shattered from doing so, then riding a wee bit hungover on the saturday, then drinking way too much on the Saturday night - most people will no the quantity of Zider I drank last year. Then, with a mother of all hangovers having a rough ride home.

For me personally I would rather chill out, drive over in the comfort of the car, have a brilliant weekend with like minded people and then drive home in relative comfort after.

Call me a "pufta", "Wimp" whatever you like, but for me personally I just dont fancy a massive trip to get there for a 140 mile ride out. The priority for me is seeing everyone again and having fun.

I am only asking cause there were a large number of people who didnt do the ride last year and so the campsite was far from deserted, if there were a few people planning on doing the same then for me that is what I would probably do. If every person said "Nope, gonna ride", then I would consider coming by bike.

S'OK if you dont go I am, so loads of people will think you were on the rideout anyway and that you'd bought a new bike ;)

Personally rideout for me is part of the weekend and I like talking to people at the stops as often you have more of a chance then than you do in the evenings or in the pub etc etc.

Its your weekend do what you want to do

Something or other about not bringing a motorcycle to an annual motorcyle event.

The clue is in the title of the event.

Besides. It is far better to be on a motorcycle with a monster hangover than in the box. The box will be far too comfy and far too easy to doze off.

Well, that depends, if I'm driving then Lily will ensure I stay awake. If Lily is driving then not so much an issue as she doesn't drink much.

So what you actually meant was "Can I bring the car so I can get trollied out of my head all weekend and get my unsuspecting other half to drag my sorry p*ss*d *ss back home afterward even though she has had to put up with my drunken antics all weekend."

I would like to add that OUR decision to come by car was a mutual one, as don't also feel comfortable packing the bike up and taking a pillion. Plus if I was hungover I would never take lily pillion. Wouldn't risk her safety for that. Fine on my own but not two up. Don't want to bring car and bike cause of the cost.

Yeah

after seeing the route.........

ride 30 miles stop for an hour. ride another 30 mile stop for an hour... etc

not realy my cup of tea, im thinking i will either get drunk in a feild with my good freinds, or find some roads to play on,

no offence to the organisers, but when im on the bike i like to ride, not hang about talking about crap, theres plenty of time for that friday sat night and sunday

Dear Mr Hovis

We've noted with some dismay that you are unhappy with many aspects of the AR09. You don't like Essex or the venue, you doubt there will be showers, breakfast may not be to your liking, the cost is way too high and now you don't like the route.
We don't have the resources nor the inclination to organise the Hovis approved AR09 so we humbly suggest to give the one as organsied a miss.
Yours sincerely

Do I detect dissent in the ranks. Hovis mate, that is my job to be the moaning old fart who doesn't want to join in the organised fun.

in best kraut prison camp accent
You vill do as you are ordered
you vill be happy
you vill fill up every 45Kilometers
you vill talk crap and ride like your bike has no balls

vot are balls, BMW is bike, BMW has two cylinders, you have niot got the right number, your bike is defective and must have extra ration removed.

Is balls is english for unnecessary extra ration cylinders?. GUARDS cut off his balls.

You vill comply!

I would like to add that my reasoning for not doing the ride is nothing related to the rideout planned.......Messie, Supervox and all the other organisers have done a brilliant job and I for one am looking forward to the whole AR09 experience much in the same way as last year, I think I made this clear at the beginning.......so on that note.....

Please dont chastise my thread as a result of Hovis' desire to get legless in a field.

Hovis.......you sir are a bad bad bad bad bad bad bad boy!!! :-)

call me old fashion, but where did you dream up all that?

1) i have never said i dont like essex, i have never been there

2) i dont even know where the venue is, so how can i not like it

3) i have not said breakfast is not to my liking, all i said was it would be good if you could get the pub to cook somthing, anything would do

4) i have never said anything about the cost

5) neither have i complained about the route, just the fact it seems to stop too often for too long, and you have chosse to have lunch somewhere, where there is basicly nowhere to get lunch.

Drew, I'll be coming in the Disco with all four dogs and Dan will either be riding the bike there or we'll hire a trailer to bring it along.

I had a great time last year not going on the ride. Samnooshka and I took the dogs for a walk in the day and I plan on doing the same this year.

Hovis, if you want brekkie with us, we'll be firing up the stove in the back of the Disco and having fresh bacon butties!

The year before last, I wish I'd skipped the ride itself, didn't enjoy it at all. No criticism of the organisation etc, it was just the horrible weather and I just wasn't in the right frame of mind for it. So, if it's like that again I probably will skip it. But I'll decide on the day I reckon... But on the other hand, I'm really glad I did the ride last year, if only for the ice cream on the beach :smt004

See.....in there is a perfectly good example of why it's useful that some people don't do the ride. Last year, Samnooshka and I were able to get to the beach car park before everyone on bikes and take pictures and video of everyone arriving.

As said by Lou, I didn't do the rideout last year, not really through choice, but never the less spent the time with friends so it was enjoyable enough, but despite the blinding ride down with Rigor, it just wasn't the same, and I'll do the ride out this year or not go, simple really.

Cheers Mark.
