(Not sure if this is in the right section so please move if it isnt. thanks)

Hi
so the siuation is that there is a yellow line of 1 cars length in a line of parking barking bays for about 7-10 cars. The yellow line is there becauses that used to be a drive way for someones house but they fenced the drive way in and made an entrance elsewhere.

now this yellow line is just to the left, outside my house to the left.

so now my mum phoned the coucnil today requesting they put a motorcycle bay (in the "_yl_" place on my hugely artistic diagram) there as they have also put one right at the far end of my road aswell with ground anchors.

they said that i would need to right to the engineering services of my council and would require a petition from the local residents.

Now my bike along with my sisters are parked in a garage behind the row of terraced houses, however my scooter is parked out front. there is another man approx 10 doors down who has a scooter and parks in his front garden and there is also a a man with an R6 and another with a bandit down the far end of the road.

now this bay can serve as two purposes (1) as bike bay for everyone else (obvious i know) (2) as a buffer zone for my car or my dads car which we would park to the right of the bay (we live near a mini cab office and they regulary do three point turns in the most stupid of places and twice my sisters car has been scraped.

my question is has anyone else ever done a petition for a similar cause and if so how many people did you get to sign as i only have, including me, my sister and dad, 3 other people on the road who i know would sign it.

any help would be grateful and sorry for the overly long post.

thanks

Where do you live exactly? Maybe some nearby .orgers would be willing to help pad it out? ;)

Think I'm one road too far into Merton personally but I know a few bikers in Wandsworth if you do get a petition together.

I would check with the engineers first, give them a ring, unless you are absolutely certain that the person you were talking to in the council knew what he/she was talking about. I can understand that they want you to write in but this petition, it's a lot of effort and I would make sure first that that is what is required before you start getting the signatures.

You might not be able to. Althought the person has fenced off there drive, it might still be a legal right of access and so they could in theory still require access.

hmm yeh will probably go down and ask the coucnil first and have a word with them.

well the lady who fenced off the drive did contact the council and request they remove the yellow line and put a parking bay there which was about 6 months ago but they havent got round to it so hopefully they wont which will give me time (after my exams) to push the bike bays.
