And please don't anyone say "It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it at any given moment"... I know.
But, a dealer has offered me £2500 in part ex for:
2005 sv 'sport' in cracking condition, only a little mark on the tank where a bungee rubbed against it when I had my tank bag on....
5000 miles, avon storms about 1500 miles ago, mot til december, lower fairings, cowl, pillion seat, grab rail, infill thingys for when grab rail is off, DB screen, beowulf end can, hamicad tail tidy, HEL braided lines, ebc hh sinterred pads, maxton springs up front and gsxr thousand shock at the back.
Had a test ride on an svThousand today, and despite all the criticism's from non-SVthousand riders, it really is the sort of bike I've been pondering about for little while. I had no trouble with "Heavy handling" or "Slower steering" as many people have mentioned. The thousand v-twin is a bit rough below 3k revs but it's more a characteristic than a flaw. Asside from that, the only thing which needs doing is possibly fresh brake fluid & maybe some sinterred pads, as the front brakes didn't feel as sharp as the ones on the 650...
Reckon I could glean more than £2500 in a private sale? I think I've got quite a good offer but the hassle of advertising and selling it privately would prolly end up working out a poorer deal than just doing straight part ex...
Cheers P

Forgot to mention, if I do go down the part ex route, said mods/add ons will be for sale :)
So, part ex or big sell?

Think you've hit the nail on the head there. How much more would you need to get in a private sale to make it worth while in effort? Chopping it in is easy, selling it privately might be, but it might not.
Nice thou by the way - almost jealous.

First step, go onto Fleabay and look at completed auctions for SVs. Try to find one which is reasonably similar to yours and see what it went for.
Subtract the trade-in value from the Fleabay price and decide how much of your time and hassle the difference buys.
Keith.

Don't forget to keep your mirror extenders and tail tidy for the Thou.
Has the Thou got the grab rail and seat cowl with it? You want one or the other or both if poss.
Great choice.

Its a pointy...not worth owt matey ;-)
Joking aside a bit difficult privately as everyones skint. Yours is in mint condition, well looked after etc, so I'd expect it to be worth a little more.
Although, the advice from the other side of the couch, from Matt is......
take the money and run!
If you want it get it.....just don't expect anything but jokes about the ghey paintwork from me and Im! ;-)

lol, but if you're tempted then do it. Just please haggle the price, as IIRC it was way too much. If you could get a little off it would make up for the loss that you'd make up with a private sale
You could always have it resprayed in a year or two, if you kept it for long enough. Anniversary or not
