I'm not talking walkers sensations or even the shoddy offering which McCoys have come up with. I'm talking Kettle Chips, Phileas Fogg, Tyrells and Pipers...

What's your favorite "Posh Crisp Flavour"? I'm loving the sweet chilli ones by Kettle but Tyrells do a mean Cheddar and Onion one... Also, them sea salt and cracked indian black pepper ones are nice (the ones which taste a little bit like fire)...

So come on, am I alone in the cake and crisp club, or are there posh crunchy crisp fans like me who long to live in the open?

Any of the Kettle Crisps! Yum! But I have been trying the new Walkers range (where you vote for them) Chilli and Chocolate is good, but Fish and Chips, urgh I wanted to throw up!

thing is, cheaper 'value' ranges are actually branded products in disguise. OR at least made by the brands in cheaper clothing
Did you know that Tesco value brown sauce is actually Daddy's? well it was when I worked for Tesco a few years back!

Try making your own. Home made crisps are amazing if you have a mandolin and the right potatoes. just a light dusting of salt and paprika as they come out of the oven and you're good to go!

They are amazing but if you're not used to using them, make sure you use the guard or they will just take the whole side of your finger off!

too true. And if you spelled it wrong, you'd prolly be lined up and shot for it :)

So once they've been serenaded by the mandoline, do you grill them or summink? I guess kettle and co will prolly deep fat fry them and whack a shed load of flavouring/salt on? Care to share any recipes giggles? :)

Been years since I've made my own, but from memory, you need to have a large area covered with tea towels, or I prefer good quality kitchen towel (like Plenty that used to be called Bounty).

Wipe any dirt off tatties, slice on thin setting and lay out on covered surface making sure there are no overlaps. Then blot the top of them all to get all the moisture off. I used to try and stay as healthy as possible and so I would get out a pastry brush and brush them all with vegetable oil. Then i'd stick them all in a big bowl and rub them together with my hands to get the oil spread over the un-oiled side too and then lay them out on oiled baking trays. Don't salt them before cooking as the salt will draw the water out of them and they won't crisp up.

Put them in a low oven preheated to about 160, gas mark 3 and leave them in, checking on them every five minutes until you can see that they have gone a nice golden brown. If you have a few trays in on different shelves which you'll need if you want a decent quantity, just swap the trays one or twice./ If you think they are sticking, just turn them over, otherwise, you can leave them.

Cover the large surface with kitchen towel and when the crisps are ready, taken them out and spread them over the kitchen towel to blot the oil off.

I usually used to just sprinkle sea salt and a little smoked paprika on them, but you can do anything you want really. Adding a tiny bit of onion powder to a little salt and having really finely grated parmesan sprinkled over while still hot was nice. I used to use herbs....one of my favs was crumbling a lamb oxo cube into a bowl with some finely chopped fresh rosemary ( or you could use dried) and sprinkling that over.....that was a nice combo.

Up to you really, but I might make some in the week and let you know if I remembered my old recipe properly!!!

Ah, these posh crisps you speak of,
I went into a pub I used to frequent last year that has now gone all lah de dah, used to be somewhere where you could play a game of pool or sling some arrows, but now one of these poncy places that have done away with these popular public house past times and replaced them with leather sofas and the like,
so I go to the bar and order some ale and packets of crisps for my friend and I.
Not content with handing over said crisps the barman produces two wooden bowls and emptys the packets of posh crisps into them, now thats posh. Oh and they were Tyrrols sea salt and black pepper don't you know.

If I were to run a pub, cafe or restaurant I would have to cook seasonal dishes and no fancy nancy carp.

I'd have 2-3 mains that would appeal to the masses, but the rest I would cook according to what was in season and fresh from my local suppliers every day. I'd get my deliveries in the morning (the spec being the freshest, best quality produce) and go from there to write up my menu for that particular day.

That way, if you visit the establishment regularly, you know there are a few dishes that will always be on the menu, but you also know that there will always be fresh seasonal new dishes to try out.

I hate these bistro bars and pubs that try to be something they are not. The Welly in Bristol has a really pretentious menu now and is way overpriced, serving slow roasted lamb shanks with mash and gravy and all sorts. Slow roasted my ar$e. Slow roasted Lamb shank shoud have th emeat falling off the bone, not tough and rubbery like the carp they serve.

All you need to do is cook good food and cook it well. No need to fuss things. If you use good produce, let the flavours speak for themselves!!!

I love food and cooking....can you tell?

I LOVE KETTLE CHIPS. MMMMMMM... I've sat and eaten my way through the extra-big packs solo, it rips the **** out of your mouth, instantly kills your kidneys from salt poisoning, and grease oozes out of every pore the next day but it's worth it.

I don't have any problem with any other foods / drinks, but if there was a Kettles S&V Anonymous helpline I'd have it on speed-dial.

Discovered at lunchtime the local Tesco is doing 2 packs of Posh Crisps for £2

So, one Kettle Seasalt and Balsamic and a packet of Phileas Fogg Sea Salt and Indonesian Black Pepper were nabbed.

The latter are working REALLY well with a pot of Tesco Jalapeno Houmus
