Neutral Light flicker

I've noticed at night when out of neutral and engaging the clutch on other gears like first or second that the neutral light indicator flickers. Now it could just be a dirty connection (in my case a dirty bike and owner) but I wanted to be sure that it wasn't the warning signs for something else.

Take the wire off the switch and touch it on a clean metal part of the bike, does the light come on strongly and without flickering? If yes then the switch/wiper is at fault, if it still flickers when you, say, wiggle the bars etc then the wiring or bulb holder is the problem.

Other faults are possible, but unlikely, can't think of anything obvious of which a flickery neutral light could be a portent of doom.
