View Full Version : decided on the new bike!
Hello my wee cherub SVrs! Further to my thread asking for advice on a 'sit up' bike, it looks like I'm buying a new Kawasaki ER6f! Tried out all the bikes you recommended: the fazer, hornet and bandit 600, but [for me] the ER6f wins hands down. Would have loved the Triumph SprintST, but think I should stick to a 600cc engine until I'm more experienced.
It's going to break my heart selling the SV650s [ got a good trade in price], but will be nice having pain free riding!
Anyhooo.....am I kicked oot the 'sv gang'??!!

I know, I know.... but the SV kills my neck! Any ideas if it's worth paying the extra for ABS?

How often do you lock your brakes up??
Its like your Helmet, Its there but you hope you'll never need to use it in anger.

How much is the ABS? I'd go for it personally. I think it would be worth it even if you only used it once in the bikes life
Thanks Darren. It's 300 quid extra
for £300 its a no brainer surely?
er6 nice didnt think to try the nekkid sv then i had the same problem with my old s which is why i got the pointy n although you not go far wrong with the kwak.

+1 Yeh I'd go for it. And her name is Dawn, not Shirley ;)
tiz a pity you havent had a ride on my bike... coz its more along the lines of a Sport Tourer rather than a sport.. i sit a good bit higher and its a lot more comfy and i'm only 5'2".. reason being i fitted a set of Gillies riser clipons. so for £300/350 you could have kept the SV.. nowt wrong with er6 though..
as for ABS.. just more to go wrong..

Sure is. Keep the £300 and spend it on something that you will use!
But that's a nice bike though, terrific engine. What colour?

I'd go for the ABS, its not something you'll need every day but hey it could save you if things go wrong!!!
I know Laurie love the ABS on his big GS said it saved him a couple of times!!!

It's all black Tiger. Can't wait. Will be a few tears when I hand over my SV though! Chatting to a guy in Arrocher today with an SV [not on the forum, but I recommended us!] and he said I'll have to brake more on the ER6f as the SV has superior gear breaking etc, Boo hoo!
Will enlist the help of my 7yr old Shona and post pictures of the new bike when I get it! [ I'm a computer dinosaur!] :smt005

Myself would have to go for black and then the green.
Just seen a reply for colour, thats what you get for not reading the whole threads.

I told you the ER6F didn't I :)
Yes, there is less engine braking, but I figure thats a plus not a minus.
Don't get the ABS, spend it on a can instead. You'll lose several kilo and the cat, and sound much better.

I prefer the n version myself but then extra fairing has never really appealed :-)
Great that you've managed to find one you like, I'm sure you and your Kwak will be very happy together :-D

Yes I agree Pete, the black is my favourite too.
Bowled over with your kindness re: the hanes manuel- shall I post it back to you or pass in on to someone else on the org? Thanks dx

Yes you did, and thank you so much. Will also take your advice re:the ABS and buy a can. Excuse my ignorance, but whats a "cat"?
Going out on my Sv now for one of my last wee runs!:smt088

The Cat is the catalitic converter, or in laymans terms a gizmo added to sap some of the power. Mines an arrow, cost circa £200 I think.

That's awful. OH has a Kwak, and the finish seems to be better than my sv. A friend of mine had to have the swingarm replaced on her GS500, when it was 6 months old:confused: nightmare.
Kawasaki do an extended 4 year guarantee for an extra £200 I think.
Thanks gals. Appreciate all the advice x

It was awful, she had to really push to get the swing arm replaced under warranty. She discovered the problem her-self. What if she had put the bike into the shop to get a new tyre fitted and they didn't let on??
What happened to the GS? I previously had a couple of GS's and had no problems with the swing arm.
Do you think my mate's ER and your friends GS were Friday afternoon jobs (or is that just reserved for Italian bikes?? LOL)!

The finish on some chinese bikes is better than the SV
And before anyone says it....especially mine now it's been through a barbed wire fence, I know!
ER6's rock - but i am biased - never had any problems finish is fantastic and never has missed a beat
and don't go for the naked - was on one on Saturday and the wind is awful

I think they changed production from Japan to Italy or vice versa! There were actually two people with the same problem on the same board, both GS's, same year.
I would push and push and push, and make damn sure I got satisfaction if it happened to me, it's unacceptable. Grrrr!
