wow, what a noise;), just loud enough too

like a mounrful yowl until ~6000rpm where it turns into a growl, >10krpm and it sounds like an IL4 that's hit puberty and it's voice's broken:p
10,000 rpm. ... Who'd need all of that eh

It's spitting oil in to the airbox already. Doh! Have a nice little pool under the bike from yesterdays ride. Some clever **** designed the hose to run out right in front of the back wheel.

I forgot that buying a Triumph meant having to actually pay attention and fix the darn thing. Still, it beats the constant bolt snapping and rusting of the SV.

Somehow managed to overfill it with fuel too. Not quite sure how I did that.

hope it's not the tip of an iceberg:eek:

as for 10,000rpm - i discovered this evening that the best way to keep your speed at around 100 or less is to only use second gear - i haven't used 4th at all for the last two rides:rofl:

Well it's got only 13000 miles, full history with it, and no young idiot like me has had a chance to thrash it.
Seems like a really common problem with that engine unfortunately. Google is most definitely the home-mechanics friend :)

The noise on this one seems to change at 6,000. Sounds wonderful :) Why would anyone want 4 cylinders?! ;)

Or lacking in character. Rider or engine ;)

Mmmm but the 1000's have more torque than any triple and V2 of similar capacity you can buy :( So its not too cut and dry. Doh!

Unfortunatly not... a new Firblade for example has the same torque and power as mine upto 9.5K when the fireblade keeps on gaining. It goes on to habe 80+ftlb of torque at about 10K. :(

Modern Superbike engines are mental good motors. Just a shame they are IL4's :p Should have put all the R&D into V2's tbh :p

Aye I guessed you were... but tbh the 675's torque does come from the CC's more than the configuration. :(

Forgot how the saying goes... something like you feel CC's? Bah.

Either way the 675 is a better road bike due to its better spread of torque, and more of it :)

Arguably a better engine, whether it's a better bike is a completely different matter:p

G2D, why not block off the airbox breathers and run them to a proper catch tank?

I was thinking that last night. Maybe bodge a breather filter on it, although it could get a bit messy. Ideally though it should be under a vacuum, so not a permanent solution unfortunately.

I'll whip the tank off in a bit and see how bad the airbox is. It could just be a case of the engine being overfilled with oil, but it is a common fault with these engines that the seal in the breather disc goes pop. Not hard or expensive to fix; just time consuming and fiddly.

yorkie_chris
15-04-09, 11:04 AM
You aren't going to get much vacuum in the airbox, not unless your filter has a dead rat in it or something.

Lots of oldskool bikes with serious tuning simply use the stock breather off the cam cover, as well as a breather from the top of the filler cap. Some of those using forced induction or gas breath heavily as well. Seems to be known as the "right" way to do it there, not sure why a triple motor would be different.

gettin2dizzy
15-04-09, 11:12 AM
They are a bit agricultural, old triumph engines. Yeah, I'm not concerned about oil consumption as I'll happily top it up as it needs it. I'm just not too keen on the engine ingesting bellow fulls of oil, so a breather filter may be the right way to go if replacing the seal doesn't work. I'm amazed that Triumph put the breather hose in the perfect place to scatter oil over the rear tyre (as it did). It's a pretty lively engine to have that going on!

Todays work:
Optimate wired in
Airbox cleaned
Inforad installed
Bleed both brakes
Check the plugs for any other gremlins

however id still buy one because they are pretty ace :)

Have box of parts arriving next week :) Going to spend a few days making sure everything is as new. Every fluid replaced, every pivot lubed, and a few electrical gubbins to throw on.

Anyone know somewhere good to get cheap seals? I would never get a triumph dealer to order and sell me a friggin cooler drain seal... ffs.

Oh, and I'll probably replace the master cylinder, brake hoses and give the calipers an overhaul.
Planning on doing a big euro tour so don't want any (more) surprises. Will probably wire in a spare clutch cable too.

Pack it as full of grease as you can, make sure there's a blob of grease on both ends and wrap the ends in a plastic bag and a bit of wire. No point replacing a snapped cable to find the spare is so corroded from water that it snaps within 10minutes as well...

Will do! Going to buy a cable greaser too. £10 sounds more bearable than having the clutch snap on you.

gettin2dizzy
21-04-09, 11:42 PM
Certainly. I have a toolkit, alarm, inforad and waterproof under the rear seat. It's like having a boot

The tank is deceiving, and is only actually the back half of the 'visible' tank. Once that's taken out (very easily, even the fuel hose connectors are accessible without moving the tank an inch), it leaves the whole engine to work on. Perfect :)

"Nuclear red" I think you'll find is the "Pink" one, whilst Tornado Red was the proper red.

Good choice of bke though.

Yeah. Blinding bike! Been out for a hoon today, and this thing pulls at any revs harder than any bike has a right to! Even in 6th it gives a snort and then leaves the world standing behind it
Absolute hooligan when you want, and as civilised as can be when you turn the tempo down

I can't think of another bike I'd rather have. Shame I scratched it today then :smt104
