So, my OH is going MotoX racing both days this coming weekend, and if it's nice I'd really like to try and get out on my bike...

Anyone fancy meting up and heading out for a bit? Just at the planning stage just now as I need to procure a babysitter etc, and I dont know what the weather is meant to do...

I just thought some of you may be up for it.

Any takers?

Bibio - Duke as in Ducati? (I'm new to this and trying to keep up with the abbreviations!!) But if indeed you do mean a ducati... that would be ace... :D One jealous OH coming right up...lol

Dyziowg - Yup, that Cardenden. I hadn't really thought of a route per se, I'm coming up from Livingston, and I'm not all that hot on route planning just now...(See above!) But if you have any suggestions I'm open to them. :)

I might be in Paisley over the weekend and would be going back to Aberdeen on Sunday. I wouldn't mind a detour :)
Anyway, I'll monitor this and post when I know a bit more.

Really depends on how far (distance and time) you feel comfortable doing, also what time of day suits you.

Do you want to get there in time to return home with other half or go there then back as a group.

3 general options, forth br, Kincardine br, or stirling to get over the river, first look anything from 30miles up, so thats minimum 60 miles round trip. So its really up to you.

fenjer
14-04-09, 08:47 AM
HI KG - I think there and back as a group is probably the best way to go, Dont fancy following the vans back home. lol.

And either the FRB or Kincardine Bridge. Although, I think the Forth Road Bridge would be better. (can you tell I'm undecisive?!) If we use the FRB then we could maybe do a wee bit more scenic riding on the other side?

Kilted Ginger
14-04-09, 09:09 AM
fine, its your run, just need to decide how far / long you are comfortable with and when suits.

Remember the route is dynamic, ie if its taking too long or becming uncomfortable it can be changed at the drop of a hat.

Haven't been up it this year yet, like any other road though, ride it as you see it.

You'd get on well with carelesschucca, he'd live there if he could.

Its a decent road to practice your observation, vanishing points, road position and cornering, if you ride within yourself and take it easy, its a little hairy if you treat it like knockhill.

Its also easily avoided if anyone uncomfortable with it.

Had a run over the Dukes last friday and the road is wrecked in a lot of places. Nasty gravel and potholes and rivers across the road.

Still always a challenge and enjoyable at any speed, and amazing views if you are just bopping along. It is plain rude to avoid it if you are in the area. :)

I'm heading to Glasgow this afternoon, if i've time i'll go via the Dukes and check it out. I was up the A82 on Sunday and it is horrible, huge sections of supposed resurfacing going on, just means they've scraped off the top smooth layer of tarmac and left a washerboard surface strewn with loose chippings and bomb craters posing as puddles, That road is always wet as well, as is the wibbly wobbly, Thats what happens when you stay in Scotland.:smt077

Track Access for this Sunday
As you know the Scottish Twinshock Scramble Club are to hold Round 2 of their 2009 championship at the FCOMC racetrack this Sunday 19th April. Fife Council have major drainage works ongoing on the access roads to the Cardenden track, so when you approach these roadworks from either the Kirkcaldy or Dunfermline end there will be a "Road Closed" sign in operation but we have been allowed full access to the track so please drive straight through be careful and watch out for construction equipment.

Dyz you could go straight along the M8 to Livingston, junction3, as you come off the roundabout there is Deer Park Golf club car park where you could meet Fenjer and anyone else who Livingston suits (unless there is somewhere better that the locals know) 30 minutes before the S'Queensferry McD's meet

Easiest meeting place is South Queensferry McDonalds carpark, the earlier the better for me, but its not my ride. Example if we met there at 10am, left 10:15 that would give you 1.5 hrs group riding to get there about 12. This would let anyone with other commitments get home by 1, or hang about, if they felt like it. just a suggestion though.

Seriously though, probably not te best idea, espcially for those of limited riding experience.

^^^ This sounds ideal - means I only need to negotiate the dual carriageway in Livi by myself... Dyz - would you be up for that?

Off-roading is definitely a no-no! Most of the tracks I have been to have decent access, damn this one!

So shall we just find a nice round route to do? Maybe coming back via Kincardine? I'm guessing no-one will want to park up and walk the mile to the track! lol

The tracks about half a mile up a farm road from my house, but the entrance we'd be coming in the tracks much better on that side, still not great but manageable. Its not the track you can see from the A92 thats the one at Lochgelly.

Point C is the McDonalds at grangemouth and a reasonable place for a coffee / blether before any westies peel off, easties can carry straight along motorway to Edinburgh / livingston or take the boness/ linlithgow road, whichever suits.
If anyone is finding the fife roads challanging we can jump onto the A91 and hit kincardine via alloa which is a doddle. Again just my opinion feel free to ignore completely.

The Dukes pass is also a little hairy if you meet a dirty big coach on a blind corner, on your side of the road!

sugestion time. since we are going to be near Kinross, how about we stop off at the sunday market??

this will serve 2 purposes. 1 we can have a cuppa and a chat and 2 refuel (for those that need to) at Kinross services.

i'm not fussed either way as this ride will be a start to my 'sunday ride'. i plan on going elsewhere afterwards probably covering about 2-300 miles on the day. i might even tag along with dyz up to aberdeen to have a look to see how some of my handywork is doing at codonas amusements.

The tracks about half a mile up a farm road from my house, but the entrance we'd be coming in the tracks much better on that side, still not great but manageable. Its not the track you can see from the A92 thats the one at Lochgelly.

Maybe you could meet us en route and escort us to the track? If you think a newbie will manage it... I'd like to see the OH (i know I'm sad!) But he doesn't believe I'm going to go out on this ride out with you guys! :o

So Fenjer its down to you, does this suit? 10am meet at south queensferry Mc'D's (09:25 at livingston) cardenden to wave to oh, cuppa at kinross, blether at grangemouth then homeward bound.

All right with everyone else?

Had a run over the Dukes last friday and the road is wrecked in a lot of places. Nasty gravel and potholes and rivers across the road.

Still always a challenge and enjoyable at any speed, and amazing views if you are just bopping along. It is plain rude to avoid it if you are in the area. :)

First 2 hairpins at aberfoil end are the best. My poor boots.. must keen those tose up.

I've just spotted this - could just be tempted with a wee run on Sunday as it happens (although the SV needs a tyre & an MOT so I might be on the Old-Man-Pan, I can feel the scorn already!!).

I'm on Horse Duty first thing on Sunday morning, but if I can get away for 8am ish, then I can make South Queensferry for 10 no probs...

i'm not a morning person ... so if you want to meat at S/Queensferry 10:30. thats better for me.... but i dont care either way..

just been for a re-con to the moto track... Torbain road is shut at the Kirkcaldy end.. so we would need to go via Cardenden..

also the road up to the track is compacted 'hard core' it looks not to bad (was in the car), but could be a bit dodgy for some folk...
